I was looking at the team stats last night and was not very happy with the Canucks over all position on 5 on 5 play (21st OA), Power Play (12th OA), Face offs (22nd OA), GF (9th OA)and GA (18th OA)...........they are not very far up the list in most cases! Only, they keep getting points.......the stats and the results just don't equal each other, that is for sure!!

Please vote, if anyone can provide a good opinion on this, I would love to hear it!

Thanks

Happy New Year!

Edited Comment:

I hate it when my memory fails me, as I thought we were weaker on PP and GF....Sorry people!

Still the stats tell me 16th place OA finish.....give or take 1 or 2 places.

We've been to lucky with injuries thus far and as per historical reference I expect one of our top 6 forwards or top 4 d-men (on top of hammer) will wind up injured soon, happens every year leading into the new year.

Honestly looking at the sched a lot of our divisional wins will be the reason we make the playoffs if we make it at all but there are a lot of good teams playing sub par hockey right now and a lot of mediocre teams right now with some massive injury issues that are expecting healthy players back within the month.

19th to 21st is my estimate, JUST outside of the top 10 but really only 4-6 points out of a playoff spot.

Interesting fact when reading the stats........Canucks are 3rd from last in hitting....after last year......I wonder how much hitting and injuries have to each other.......it would also be curious to see how blocked shots have to do with injuries.....just wondering....didn't do anything

for Evander Kane's foot! Ouch!

I don't see us missing the playoffs this year unless further injuries occur, or we go on a 6+ game losing streak or 2. As long as we bounce back from a mediocre December we should be able to keep pace with the group that will tangle for the last 3 spots in the West.

To be honest, if we finish bottom 15, that would be great because then we would get a high pick to add to our system. If we are top 15, top 10, that would be great too because then I would be able to watch us play in the playoffs!

If we are bottom 15 though, I expect us to compete every game even if we lose.

Mathew Barzal will look good in a Canuck Jersey. Its impossible to predict the outcome of this team. The West is super tight, teams like Minnesota and Dallas are still getting going; furthermore, some can argue and say Calgary and Winnipeg are overachieving along with the Canucks.

Don't be surprised we end up in 5-8 range or 9- 10 range.

Right now we are on pace for a 105 point season!

Hamhuis and Kassian will be back soon and 20 of our 35 games have been on the road.

It should take around 95 points to secure a good playoff position

We have 45 points in 35 games, so we will need 50 points in the remaining 47 games.

We are in an excellent position to make the playoffs!

If they can make the playoffs in the first season of the "retool" then I think most in management would consider that a win, no matter the seeding. The west ain't no joke and even a wild card finish would be fairly impressive even though we'd most likely be 'one and done' depending on the opponent.

If Vancouver doesn't make it, I can't really see Linden or Benning panicking and making foolish decisions...the franchise needs to continue it's rebuild of its prospects and bring forth the next generation of Canucks from within and not through trades or free agency.

At the moment we are in a good position. 2nd in Pacific with the least amount of games played, which is always nice to see. A lot can change, a small losing streak and we can be knocked down 2-3 places quite easily. More injuries can occur, so it is hard to say where we will end up.

I do however, have faith we'll be in the playoffs. Defense has been shaky at times, offense has also been a bit inconsistent at times but that will always happen. The bottom line is that this team is a lot better than last year's. A starting goaltender that has the experience, 4 lines (first time in years) - very good bottom 6 - 2nd line could use a bit of work, etc.

We have what it takes to get into the playoffs. I say we'll end up as the 3rd (maybe 2nd) spot in the Pacific. Overall I guess that'll be 10-14ish.
