-SN-
The Chicago Blackhawks will be prominently represented at the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game, with five of their players revealed Saturday as part of the first six NHL All-Stars. Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons will join Blackhawks forwards Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, defensemen Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook, and goaltender Corey Crawford at NHL All-Star Weekend, Jan. 24-25 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. Girgensons, the Sabres' second-year center, topped all vote-getters with 1,574,896. The 20-year-old has 11 goals and 20 points in 39 games. Helping push Girgensons to the All-Star Game have been two passionate fan bases: Sabres fans, and ones in his native Latvia. "It's a little bit embarrassing and funny at the same time," Girgensons recently told The Associated Press. "It came out of nowhere. I know people know me back home, but I didn't think it was going to go that far. That's like crazy far." http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=746923&navid=DL|NHL|home This is why online fan voting should not exist.
Warhippy
This is just a load of crap and I agree fan voting is garbage 20 million people thought Friday by that rebecca black chick was a good song as well. Doesn't make it true anymore than a fans vote makes a player worthy of an all star team. Just complete nonsense really as it gives legitimate players less of a chance ot represent their team when having a good season. Like the Team canada nonsense by taking draft picked players for the world juniors over players deserving because of their play that year. next year we should start a group that votes only for the biggest plugs. the McGrattons, Sestitos, Scotts Tootoos etc and just screw the hockey world up A first ballot all star team of nothing but plugs and goons would seriously make them re-think this crap

Uncle Rory, a poster made for the campaign During the 2006–07 NHL season, while playing for the Vancouver Canucks, despite having zero points in 18 games, Fitzpatrick finished third in All-Star Game voting for defensemen in the Western Conference with 550,177 votes, falling 23,000 votes shy of second place Nicklas Lidström, winner of 4 Norris Trophies and 3 Stanley Cups.[4] The idea was to use the new NHL procedure, where people were encouraged to vote as often as they liked, to have an unlikely candidate chosen. Contributors to this goal sent the idea across the Internet in the hopes of having Fitzpatrick voted in as one of the two starting defensemen for the Western Conference.[5] They also created several videos on YouTube as a way to spread news. A website, www.voteforrory.com, was created as well.[6] Rory peaked in balloting at the number 2 position, before eventually being bumped from participation in the game to third place. The plot was originally conceived as a humorous campaign designed to show the flaws in the NHL voting system. The logic was that if enough people voted for an unlikely player to start the game, the league would change its system. After some time, the plan metamorphosed for many into a more symbolic gesture.[7] For his part, Fitzpatrick — who never actively supported the campaign beyond donning a T-shirt at the request of photographers — stated that he had gotten a kick out of the movement and acknowledged the hard work that his supporters had put into it.[8] Fitzpatrick's teammates were also supportive, with several voicing their intention to vote, and wearing customized "Vote for Rory" T-shirts at a team practice.[9] The final voting results on January 13, 2007 saw Rory finish in third place behind Scott Niedermayer and Nicklas Lidstrom, meaning he did not start in the All-Star game. Slate found the final results suspicious due to unlikely numerical coincidences in the final week of voting, and believed that the NHL altered the vote counts.[10] Final Voting Results[11] Player Team Votes Scott Niedermayer Anaheim Ducks 591,657 Nicklas Lidstrom Detroit Red Wings 573,069 Rory Fitzpatrick Vancouver Canucks 550,177 Chris Pronger Anaheim Ducks 433,972 Dion Phaneuf Calgary Flames 395,
Master Mind
Fan voting just turns this into a popularity contest. All star games might mean nothing to some fans, but it might to the players. The NHL just took away any possible value from it.

But I am thinking on a much grander scale. And honestly, it's hard to argue if we populate the 1st ballot all star team with nothing but goons and thugs that it wouldn't be more fun to watch than what we get right now. Comparing an exhibition game roster selection to an Olympic one, what a freaking joke. You folks do realise that most of the veterans don't even wanna go to the all star game, right? Everyone just wants to go home to their families. We're not sour. We like most hockey fans think it's a joke. We think the method behind it is unfair to many younger players or at least hard working players who deserve a shot. Much like the WJHC where the selection is limitied to or basically relegated to who was drafted the previous year or who is the current flavour of the month for this years draft over players who have worked their arses off all year and by the numbers are having better campaigns than some who have simply been handed a position. An all star game should be based on merit and numbers, not which 15 year old can click like the fastest and the most. It detracts from the actual integrity of the game as whole when you relegate it into a popularity contest as opposed to a reward for hard work in the sport you've dedicated your life to

Hobble
Just make the All Star game have the best players from each team. Starting line up is the best C, LW, RW, LD, RD and G.
-AJ-
It's not the entire team, just one line. That said, Seabrook and Crawford do not deserve to be there. For that matter, not even Girgensons deserves to be there. Maybe the NHL will clue into the joke that this voting is after this charade.

c00kies
To be fair, all the blackhawk players deserve to be there. Not really. Rinne should be the goalie, he's having a beast of a year while Crawford is just his usual self (a bit like Fuhr in that he only has to make the saves when needed, but Rinne needs to steal games).
