How do you trade the Sedins?

Recommended Posts

A good GM can move a player right before a decline and bring back some nice pieces (see Trevor Linden trade). With the Twins moving closer to their twilight at some point JB must have the thought of moving them. Their production dips too low for the intangibles they bring to be of value. So, if he were to move them, how do you do it?

You have to move them together.

You likely move them to a contender.

The contender must be deep in their system.

You have to get back pieces that can play today.

Looking at options, you have to think the top 6 teams in the East would be ideal. Less travel on them and a chance to get a cup.

I would be interested in what kind of pieces CDC thinks could be brought back. Every year that goes by, those pieces get less and less.

Radko Gudas and Kucherov/Johnson out of Tampa Bay and maybe DeAngelo?

It is so difficult, but I think instead of them walking like Nazzy or wasting away as 3rd liners here, you move them before they really decline.

There is no contender that can take on the combined cap hit.

Bingo.

You'd have to retain them by 2 million each, and there's no &^@#ing way I'd do that

And I love them, so we'd need to trade everyone other than Horvat and Tanev in the organization before you move them.

There's no way to do it. Unless the a good chunk of their salary was retained, no contender can absorb a $14,000,000 cap hit.

That being said can you imagine what kind of return we could get for them? Right now both of them are in the 0.9 PPG range. I'm thinking we could get a top 6 forward, top 4 D, and a 1st round pick/A+ prospect.

Who are we kidding though. They're retiring as Canucks and getting their numbers put in the rafters immediately afterwards.

People, the day Gretzky was dealt opened the door for everyone to be traded. To say you don't because of Homerism is not what's best for the team. It's easy to say you don't. That is not reality.

Yeah, because there's nothing different about Gretzky's glory years and the NHL today...

The fact you included Kucherov and Johnson in the OP makes this not a reality
