Dazzle
It's a bit amusing to hear some posters bash him, for no apparent reason other than to rotate the usual bash targets. He's been a very good depth player, for only 650,000 USD. He's obviously due for a raise next year by someone. Hopefully, he re-signs here. Although he "lacks ideal defense size", he makes up for it with his good board work and good defensive awareness. I think he has some untapped offensive potential too, considering his numbers in the OHL and, most recently, in the AHL. He makes a great complementary partner in Sbisa - and Weber rarely is the reason for the goals against, because he covers for his defensive partner usually, opting to stay back. Last game, he had a hard game - he was hit hard (the hit wasn't a penalty) and high-sticked (was a penalty but wasn't called). Part of the job, but he doesn't seem to whine about his role. He seems like a quiet person, though he does have a Twitter account. Seems like a good teammate. He's producing better than last year, points-wise, though he has fewer goals. He has a better +/- though. He's only 26. How much do you think he's worth next year? 1 mill? 1.5 mill? for a 2 year contract?
William_Clarkson
Give Sbisa, Bieksa, or Stanton Weber's minutes, zone starts, and competition they would look good too. The other 3 haven't played that well, but Weber plays less minutes and is given sheltered minutes.
Junkyard Dog
Good depth D but that's all he will be here.
BananaMash
I too like Yannick Weber. He does what's asked of him and never really looks lazy. He steps in when he's asked to, and does a half decent job. He has looked not great at times this year, but he's a 7th guy being asked to do more than that, and he's doing it for cheap. Seriously though Weber is pretty good but we still need a top 4 d man.

Stanton/Bieksa have been regular penalty visitors lately. You're right, maybe they should be sheltered.

avelanch
the only weber i appreciate is the one who shot a puck clean through the net in the olympics. wish we had him instead of the pretender.

The other 3 haven't played that well, but Weber plays less minutes and is given sheltered minutes. It's true that he faces the weakest quality of competition on the blueline (only Vey is facing weaker on the team as a whole) and has high ozone starts (although Stanton has higher at this point) - but Weber is the 7th man, and a 650k cap hit - and he is the second leading scorer on the blueline with 9 points. I agree with the OP in the sense that he's a better defensive presence than generally perceived - I like his aggressiveness - I think he closes gaps very well, battles well for a guy his size, and although he's not necessarily the guy you want caught out there against big, skilled lines, he holds his own pretty well for the most part. Nuxfanabroad
Good post, Dazzle. We haven't appreciated this bloke, as much as it's warranted. For his salary, he's quietly done a fine job. Re-sign around a mill x3.
Raffi Torres's Smirk
Also, he's been better than Bieksa while making about a 1/7th of the salary. Keep him around!
-AJ-
He's always surprisingly good offensively. He's actually been one of our top offensive d-men this year (not that it really says much) and is also +4. He's probably sheltered a bit, thus his good +/- rating, but for the price, he's a good deal.
Bo.Horvat53
Always liked Weber. He's not a give away machine and also had a wicked shot. Nothing to complain about
Dazzle
every-time you guys make these, the player starts to play bad. You're right. I should've made it into "Yannick Weber - Do we really need him?" Then proceed with a bash or so. It always blows up in the OP's face. Example: Grabner (scored 3 goals right after that thread was made - Anaheim game).LOL. Example: Burrows.

He and Sbisa have been a safe pairing, and they each have something good to offer (Luca's physical and can shut down lower guys, and Weber's got his own bomb). For people saying give Juice his minutes, Kevin would be greatly overpaid. Hope we can move KB instead, get a younger D-man who can move the puck and keep Yannick around, no complaints about him from me.
elvis15
It's not the first one we've had for him: Yannick Weber Appreciation Thread And it won't be the last until he either moves on or becomes a more solid piece of the D.
Time Lord
It bugs me when people say he doesn't belong in the NHL. He's a decent #6 or 7 D-man, who has played well based on his expectations and salary. Him, Stanton, and Sbisa are underrated IMO.
Dazzle
the only weber i appreciate is the one who shot a puck clean through the net in the olympics. wish we had him instead of the pretender. That Weber is also one of the most expensive players in the NHL this season. That Weber is older and more experienced. We wouldn't even be able to afford him if he were to sign here. He's paid more than Crosby. Also, who's to say that Weber isn't THE pretender? Weber is a German last name, yet he hasn't spoken German. He's from Canada. Not authentic. Meanwhile, our Weber is from Switzerland, a German speaking country. He is true German.
