Bissurnette
A fight between "newly" acquired Andrey Pedan and the gentle giant Jarred Tinordi. Pedan knocks him out. While everyone should be concerned for Tinordi's safety of course, I can't wait to find out what Pedan can do in the big leagues. Hopefully he's good enough to stick around but this is exactly the kind of Dman we've been lacking for years. http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2015/01/canucks-prospect-andrey-pedan-knocks-jarred-tinordi/ PS: I can't seem to embed the article, any suggestions? PS #2: Sorry Elvis, this should probably go in the Canucks Prospect and Utica Comets forum but not many people check that forum often

GoaltenderInterference
Canucks prospect Andrey Pedan knocks out Jarred TinordiBy Wyatt Arndt | 7:05 pm PST, Fri January 9, 2015 | Speak UpWhen the Canucks traded for Andrey Pedan, not much was known about him in Canucks Nation. Google told us he was a 6″4 and 205 pound (or as the WWE would list him, 7″0 and 500 pounds) 21-year-old defenceman. In Fridays game in the AHL between the Utica Comets and Hamilton Bulldgos, that size was on full display when Pedan took on another not so gentle giant in 6″6, 230 pound Jarred Tinordi. The results were ugly. To get the elephant out of the room, staged fights are never a good thing in the NHL. With what we know of head injuries, fighting is something that might one day see its way out the door in the NHL. It doesnt help its cause by having two huge guys knock the other one straight out, especially in a staged fight where the two combatants probably swapped BBQ sauce recipes and asked about their Christmases before signing their verbal contract to throw down after the faceoff. In a purely savage hockey fan way, Canucks fans will probably be very excited about the idea of having a nasty defenceman patrolling the d-line, should Pedan ever show he has the skills to stick in the NHL. Not that Yannick Weber isnt intimidating, but something tells me his super quick poke check doesnt really make an opposing forward think twice about heading to the front of the net. Bieksa used to provide some snarl in the corners, but that hasnt been seen since he entered his hockey coma in 2013.Apparently Pedan also likes to throw big hits, and is considered quick for his size. Thankfully there were no skates like Dana Murzyn comparisons in his scouting report, but he is dangerously close to the goon side of things, with his biggest career accomplishment being the OHLs penalty leader of 2012-2013. Still, if 2011 taught us anything, if the Canucks can just sign Gregory Campbell, anything should go in the playoffs which is where Andrey The Assassin Pedan might shine! Also just imagine if Nikita Tryamkin, the Canucks 6″7 230 pound 3rd rounder from last year makes the team as well? The Russian Towers of Terror will be born! In a six degrees of Kevin Bacon twist, Jarred Tinordi is also the guy who once laid a beating down on current Canuck Frankie Corrado. If this was Game of Thrones, one might suggest Frankie whispered a name in Pedans ear recentlyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYB38PpmYVE It goes without saying of course that hopefully Tinordi is ok and recovers without any long term issues. lee goren rulez69
nice clip but i still dont understand why we traded a 3rd for this guy. he is not actually good at hockey and if we wanted a fist puncher we have sestito and could've picked up mcgrattan
avelanch
he's a turnover machine with hands of stone and can't play properly. if we still had a pylon line i might have suggested he be converted into a forward for that purpose, but it's clear we no longer follow that methodology, so he will never make the big club. especially as a d-man. if he were to work on his actual hockey skills he might stand a chance, but as of right now, he's a liability whenever he's on the ice in the AHL, he'd be eaten alive in the NHL. -AJ-
Dang that's a big punch. Hopefully he can up the skill level a bit. Hasn't scored this year, but is +4. Seems to take a lot of penalties, but I don't know how many of those are fights. This year he's got 21 AHL games and 7 assists in those games. He also has an astounding 80 PIM in those games. Stay at home defensemen, has a rocket of a shot (that he puts on net), skates incredibly well. To be honest, I was at the game and Tinordi was calling him out. I know Andrei personally, and fighting is not what he wants to do. I am here to tell you, when he gains some more confidence with the puck when under pressure, he will be loved in Vancouver. If Green gives him the ice-time, I guarantee Andrei is on PP by season's end.

You are insane. Andrei's only area that is holding him back is his decision making with the puck when under pressure. I watched him come up in Junior, and I guarantee once he gets a bit more comfortable as a pro, those mistakes will go away.

Clearly you are not far enough removed from the situation and watching with friend goggles. though one can't help but wonder how well you do know him, considering you can't spell his name correctly. Watch him play and then talk to me instead of hearing 2nd hand from Utica "fans". Kid is 21 and a plus 4 this season. This kid just needs to get a little more comfortable with the team and I will be he will be a fan favourite. As for how well I know him, only his real friends know him by the Russian spelling Andrei, not the spelling he adapted when he came to Canada "Andrey". viking mama
Don't like staged fights, at all,...and I hope Pedan realizes, that he will get to the NHL by playing 'good' defensive hockey & working on his skating, passing, shooting & scoring skills. The 'goon' is a thing of the past. His discipline has already been questioned by some & taking a few more knocks to the head wont be helping his IQ any,... or spare him from the consequences of CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) down the road. Just play the game & improve your honest skills, young man. Fighting, just because the other teams's toughest guy challenges you...only appeases the Neanderthals on-the-ice, and in the stands. Harness the beast within,..and pick your moments. Dont get a rep that will haunt you or make you or any of the future or newer young members of your imediate family, unhappy. All my best wishes to Andrey, for a promising career in the AHL,...and beyond.

Let's all be honest here though, do you really think he is the one trying to make a career out of being a goon? I just want everyone to remember this kid was the 4th top defensive point man in the OHL, he had 10 points in 28 games in his rookie season before suffering a season ending injury. He is not a goon. In the entire organization, is there another 21 year old defence man that brings any of the attributes to the table? Admittedly, his weak point right now is his decision making with the puck when under pressure...something confidence and familiarity with his teammates will overcome. But this kid can skate, has a rocket of a shot, can take the body in front and behind the net, and has a stay home defensive mentality.

Corrado and Hutton both fulfill those criterion and then some as they also don't need to work on their decision making. I hope Pedan does improve, since it would suck to throw away a 3rd round pick for someone who doesn't pan out, but things are not as great as you make them seem. Well, keep watching. He is young, new to the team and city, finding his way as a hockey player and as an adult. This is one tough kid mentally, and to right a 21 year old prospect off as a liability (when no stage of his career supports that statistically), is short sighted. Out of curiosity, what do you mean by "cannot play properly"?
