Do people buy the "illness" story? These two names are heavily linked to trade rumours. New Jersey has a long break without playing until Wednesday so seems like an ideal time to make a move if one is in the works.

So... just illness? Kept out because of some trade talks which aren't finalized? A deal made but not announced until tomorrow?

Forwards Jaromir Jagr and Tuomo Ruutu, both ill according to the Devils, did not take part in practice Sunday morning at AmeriHealth Pavilion.

Steve Bernier took Jagr's spot on the top line with Adam Henrique and Scott Gomez.

Jacob Josefson skated on the fourth line instead of Ruutu, with Tim Sestito and Jordin Tootoo.

Defenseman Eric Gelinas, who is working his way back from the flu, practiced with the full team.

Even the healthiest person can get the flu. I'm back to work today. My doctor told me this is the worst flu season he's seen since 1984. Even with shots, there's a strain out there that they didn't anticipate.

The New Jersey Swamp Sickness.

Otherwise known as having Lou Lam as a coach.

And someone might take Ruutu. Someone actually took Rene Bourque.

It would make sense for the Devils to deal Jagr and Ruutu. At this point, they really should start to make the turn around and fully inject youth into the line up.

At the same time though, I'm all for Jagr staying. He's been playing like a kid out there all season and can definitely go with the young guns in New Jersey.

I want Matteau and Boucher to stay in the line up.

...Maybe they're just sick?

Ruutu has negative value. 43 GP, 8 points? For 5 mil? This year, next year, and another year???

Carolina has two awful contracts that they have to deal with in Ruutu and Semin. Both of them have 8 points this season. That's 16 points for $12M.

As bad as Nonis has been for the Leafs, which is atrocious, Rutherford absolutely ballsed up those two signings.

We should nab Jagr. He would be ideal with the twins or on the 2nd line.

Every time I see him I can't believe his age, he gives nothing away for the years.

The Canucks are not a Jagr away from being a Stanley Cup contender. They are 4 years removed from being a Cup contender.

To any knowledgeable hockey fan, it is clear that Benning's intention is to stay as competitive as possible in order to properly groom the young players in the organization; so they don't get used to losing (i.e. Oilers prospects).

Giving up any assets for rentals is not what Vancouver should be doing this season. If anything, it would and should be the other way around.

Had.

Carolina dealt Ruutu to the Devils.
