William_Clarkson
This is hard to do. For example, the Sedins would top the list as far as passing goes, but would be a lot lower as far as skating goes. Tanev's shutdown abilities would be near the top, but his physical play would be lower (although I don't really care about that, since D-Man like Lidstrom didn't/don't need physical play to be effective defensively). YEGCanuck
Based on your list, Bieska, Burrows and Sbisa would place lower on my list.

J.I.A.H.N
Dral....it is not that Kassian is valued so high....just the rest of them aren't doing any better......must admit, I had trouble with Kassian, as I did with others....am I close? What do you think......would you rank them in that order?

What do you think......would you rank them in that order? Seriously? You think our bottom six players are that bad? Every player has their bad days, but guys like Richie, Dorset and Hansen have generally been really good for us.
Bo.Horvat53
Would honestly rank Vrbata ahead of Daniel
-AJ-
It's difficult to rank them because criteria can vary. For example, do we rank them based on expectations? Do we rank them based on how well they've been doing in the last couple of weeks or so? Do we rank them based on how they've done in the last year or so? Their entire career? My observation is that people tend to give their lists based on a mixture of all these time frames, with some valuing recent play more highly than others, thus the occasional big differences appear. Heck, I don't even know how I rank them, really.

Hey, this is why I am asking! Thanks.....looking for opinions Not a bad list but Kassian is way too high. I put him behind behind Matthias and ahead of Vey. Also, I would put Edler, Hamhuis, and Vrbata at 3, 4, and 5 in that order. Also Hansen goes ahead of Sbisa and Higgins. And Miller moves up to just above Bieksa. That is about it. Nblumer
I always just look at +- statistic. If you try to do it on skill or goal scoring you miss the point that hockey is a team sport and that your last puck give away is as lethal as your last goal. It also makes it fairer on the D men or even just rounded forwards. From this perspective it is: Henrik +9 Higgins +6 Edler +5 Tanev +5 Daniel +4 Weber +4 Stanton +4 Bonino +3 For example, when Kessler was playing for Vancouver last year he was overused as this energetic goal scorer and hard worker, but in fact last year he was not really making the greatest teamwork moves on his shifts and getting a minus 15 for the year On the other hand, Higgins - not the highest point maker but one of the best in +- I realize it can be who is on your shift - for example this year Bieksa has a minus 4, which is more reflective of his pairing with Sbisa than necessarily bad playing. But who would dispute that Bieksa is not playing nearly as well now than in 2010/11 when he got a + 32 You could argue that the +- varies from year to year - eg Higgins and Edler were a net minuses last year but this year they are both in the +s but again who wouldn't argue that Edler is playing much better this year. Injuries take their toll eg Daniel is now +4 compared to +0 last year. Still it's a "what have you done for me lately?" hockey world
