MINNEAPOLIS - Target is exiting Canada.

Chairman and CEO Brian Cornell says the company was unable to find a realistic scenario in which Target Canada would become profitable before at least 2021.

The retailer said Thursday that it anticipates approximately $5.4 billion in fourth-quarter losses from discontinued operations in Canada.

Target Corp. currently has 133 stores in Canada with about 17,600 employees.

What are they going to do with the Target shop in Metrotown?

Didn't they demolish Zellers to get Target there?

Anyways, go back to your country, Target. Bye bye..

I think so. The same thing happened at Brentwood. Target came in and laid off a lot of people working at Zellers, and now that they've dismantled Zellers, they are packing up and leaving, putting a lot more people out of work.

It was inevitable. Retail is a dead model. With the internet there's no reason the consumer shouldn't be able to but directly from the producer at a wholesale price. Time to get rid of the middle men.

I feel sorry for all those employees...what a drag....we go to the one in Vernon every now and then - cleaner and better organized than the Wallmart.

I hate Wallmart. They jam so much stuff in the aisles you'd think they would get fined for violating a fire code or something.

Complete and utter chaos.

Not to mention the slowwwwwwwwww lines...

Walked through there twice, to get to the mall. It seemed desolate. Then I looked at a few prices on kitchenware....nope. Nothing to see here and a speedy exit to the mall.

That was a quick and disastrous venture for them. Now all those people without jobs...sounds like they're working out a 16 week severance package and then ??

Adios, Target. Don't let the automatic door that often doesn't work hit ya on the way out.

Today is my last official day as an employee at Target and they announce that they're closing.

Coincidence? I think not.

Great place to work and I have nothing but good things to stay about our store. They treat their employees better than most retail joints, and each store has so much flexibility in planning events and delivering the Fast, Fun and Friendly attitude to everyone. We all knew it wasn't going to go well when the prices and inventory did not compare to Walmart's, but our service attitude and the way we treat our guests is 100x better.

I enjoyed working in the HR department in a brand new store as I helped build the personnel from the ground up. It's a shame that this failed nationally, but many stores in different regions should be proud of what they accomplished, despite the failure as a whole.

Meh. Another big box, just like all the others. I'm sure some other crappy similar store will replace it.

I wouldn't count on it. Internet competition + broke Canadians = bad time to be a Canadian retailer.

Time for the mall owner to chop that part of the building and put in residences before that bubble pops too.
