ShakyWalton
Video in link... (VIDEO): Former Canuck accused of assaulting a minor. January 13, 2015 In a disturbing accusation, charges have been filed against former NHLer Jim Dowd for assaulting a minor. After spending 19 seasons in the NHL, Dowd is currently coaching high school hockey at the Manasquan-Point Pleasant Beach varsity team in New Jersey. The incident occurred last Wednesday during one of the teams games. Dowd is accused of kicking one of his 16 year old players in the back while he was sitting on the bench. He has been suspended from his coaching duties, pending an investigation by Wall Township NJ Police Department. Dowd played for 11 different NHL teams, and recorded 71 goals and 168 assists for 239 points in 728 games for his career. http://www.canucksfanfeed.com/video-former-canuck-accused-assaulting-minor/
Nas19
Honestly I have a hard time believing this. It seems that a lot of people who he coached in the past have come out and said that they find this really hard to believe. Same with a bunch of other people who are close to him. Really interested to hear what comes of the investigation. I have a feeling the charges will be dropped or something close to that. And kicked in the back? While he was on the bench? Seems kinda odd. viking mama
How many of us are sitting here wondering,... if this was the way one or many of his previous coaches have treated him over the years? He was reared by very same characters who modelled coaching-behaviors for the likes Patrick Roy & John Tortorella. Anger-management class & a refresher on the prevailing politically-correctness attitudes of the 21st century are in order. Good luck - Jim! EDIT: The player likely couldn't see what actually transpired behind his back,...so unless there is proof that Dowd was the cause of some damages here....or if there are a series of witnesses who think this was outrageous & offending behavior or conduct & not something done jestfully or in a cajoling-way,...then this case will likely be going nowhere. Tearloch7
I don't remember him showing any kind of 'competitive passion' when on the ice? .. odd behavior, if true.

A lot of times coaches are standing on the same bench the players are sitting on. In close quarters like that it could have been an accident. Of course in minor hockey, there can be a lot of politics as well. Apparently the charges were filed by a parent. Wouldn't be the first time a parent has made false accusation against a coach they didn't like. Of course, wouldn't be the first time a coach has lost his temper on a player either. We'll see how this plays out.
Gross-Misconduct
He looked pretty good on the ice. Looks like he still has some wheels. Hope JB and Trev see this thread.
