Sly_Paragon
http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/yet-another-baby-killed-preventable-accidental-shooting Tragedy struck a young family because of a loaded gun left at home unlocked. A five-year-old boy from Elmo, Missouri, shot to death on Monday his nine-month-old brother who was in a playpen. The tyke toyed with a .22 caliber loaded pistol that he found at the house of his grandfather. Upon seeing her baby wounded, the mother of the boys called 911, reports 9News. Emergency services arrived at around 9 am and flew the injured baby to the Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, but he was declared dead before noon, said Nodaway County Sheriff Darren White. White said investigators believe the shooting was an accident. He added, "We don't have any reason to believe otherwise." White added, "Right now there's nothing to indicate any foul play. It really looks like it was just a horrible, tragic accident," quotes Omaha.com. The boy thought the gun was a paint-ball gun, he told his mother identified as 24-year-old Alexis Wiederholt. She is a resident of North Dakota and was just visiting with her four children her father who lives in Elmo. The five-year-old is the eldest of her children. Becky Kent, a neighbour of the kids' grandfather, said many Elmo residents are hunters, but most of them lock their weapons or keeps the unloaded guns and ammunitions in a separate room. Warhippy
What is the context of your comment? He is poking at the American Republican and NRA belief that defenseless people wouldn't be defenseless if everyone had a loaded gun. They firmly believe arming teachers in schools will prevent a sandy hook and that more problems with violence can be solved if everyone has a gun. Simply put if this 9 month old had a gun this might not have happened. But all jokes towards stupid American idealism and misguided beliefs in the wrong kinds of freedoms how the HELL does a town full of hunters allow for a loaded handgun to be left in the reach of a toddler? This is twice in the last month a child under the age of two has been killed in the US that we know of due to at reach armed weapons with no safety or lock on them
Gstank29
Merica where people literally shot there own family. I still dont get there gun laws and why people leave loaded guns out in the open with little kids around who have no idea what they are capable of doing

Grapefruits
Parents should be charged as I see it for 2 reasons. Leaving a loaded firearm around where a kid had access to it, and for not teaching their son proper firearm safety. Now before anyone says the kid is only 5, I grew up with my father having a loaded revolver in his nightstand. I knew that I was not to touch it, and was taught never to point a firearm at anyone. **Edit** Make that Grandfather should be charged for leaving a loaded firearm around where a kid had access to it. Warhippy
What is the context of your comment? Here is a very good story to read actually about this It is the NRA's 3rd upper man and owner of the gun manufacturing company PARA. He is actually responding to Liam Neesons comments about guns in America after questions regarding Taken 3. And I quote Liam Neeson's comments on American gun control have a U.S. weapons maker up in arms. PARA USA, the gun manufacturer that provided the firearms for Neeson's latest action film Taken 3, says it regrets working with the Irish actor after remarks he made in an interview with Dubai's Gulf News. "There’s too many guns out there," said the 62-year-old in reaction tothe deadly attack on the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris two weeks ago. "Especially in America," the actor said. "I think the population is like, 320 million? There’s over 300 million guns privately owned, in America. I think it’s a disgrace." Actor shows 'ignorance' PARA, a North Carolina-based gun maker, said the remarks reflect "a cultural and factual ignorance that undermines support of the Second Amendment and American liberties," and it called for a boycott of Neeson's movies. "We will no longer provide firearms for use in films starring Liam Neeson," said a message on the company's Facebook page. "Further, we encourage our partners and friends in the firearms industry to do the same." Neeson, who has a reputation for playing trigger-happy characters in his movies, hasn't commented publicly on the boycott threat. The controversy doesn't appear to be hurting ticket sales for Taken 3,which stars Neeson as an ex-government operative who is framed with his wife's murder. The shoot 'em-up thriller has grossed more than $65 million US worldwide since its release on Jan. 9. =============================== It's actually remarkable when you delve in to this story and the comments people have made as well as the NRA's statements regarding Neesons comments that people genuinely think like this. The view into the mind set of the american mind is frightening regarding guns gun use and gun freedoms

Lancaster
I never understood why people make this a political and/or pro/anti-gun issue. The parents were irresponsible, that's the main point in all this. Had this been a open fireplace and the kid burn the house down, killing a few family members, I doubt anyone would be banning fireplaces or fire. Good grief man You don`t point a fireplace at someone pull the trigger and make someone go away. I loathe that argument. Plain and simple guns are created to KILL. They serve NO other purpose. A fireplace accident is an accident or a careless oversight or lack of attention. A 5 year old child and his grandfather now have to live with the fact that a loaded unsecured weapon...WEAPON killed their little brother/grandson This is not a pro/anti gun issue. This is a GUN issue period

They would, if a five-year old was capable of carrying a fireplace over to his brother's playpen and burning him to death. Got any other ridiculous analogies?
