why are people shocked?? the guy has been floating for the last 3 seasons...the kings have never gotten close to the production he put up in philly.. they have already won 2 cups with him and hes a better playoff player last few years than regular season but for what he gets paid and the fact LA isnt in a playoff spot they cant afford to have floaters on the team right now.

what team wants to be be on the hook for the remaining 16 mill over the next 3 years and a cap hit of 5.75 for the next 5 years??? any young guy that has a little jump to his step right now is an improvement over Richards and if you guys think hes an improvement over anyone in our top 6 right now you are crazy.

Still a better center than nux 2nd through 4th. Can use him for sure, but that contract is toxic.

Benning will have to see that there is a chance he can revive his career for it to make sense.

But if he is claimed off waivers, isn't LA on the hook for part of his salary? That might be more palatable. Nux do need a better center, playoff and big game experience. Unless he is into drugs or addictions, he may have still have some gas left in his tank.

If we could make the contract work, I would definitely take the risk.

With that said, we're already a pretty deep team down the middle (even if we lack a true 2nd C) and this would stunt the growth of Horvat as he would likely be the odd center out.

No, they're not. If a team takes him, they're on the hook for 100 percent of his salary. The only way that another team could be interested is if the Kings retained a part of his salary, which could only happen in a trade.

Kings definitely couldn't trade him - at all.

It's funny how you don't often hear players like these one actually being shopped around, yet Eklund makes up a bunch of crap that never comes to fruition.

His cap hit is too high. I suppose Toronto might be interested, but they'd want to off-shore a bad contract too. Perhaps Clarkson for Richards? It'd actually be a fair deal, tbh.

5.75 million for 30-40 pts a year? No wonder they want him out.

No kidding. It's like some people here have been living under a rock for the past couple years. I imagine anyone who wants us to claim him would also like us to add Dany Heatley, Martin Brodeur, etc...

The least desirable part about claiming Richards is the term on that contract. 5 more years at $5.75M is going to be far too much for a guy that appears to be a bottom-6 forward on the decline. If he'd only had a year or two left on his deal, I'm sure a lot of teams would have interest in the hopes that he'd bounce back for them. With 5 years? Unlikely.
