orango
Winnipeg: Patrice Cormier + 2015 3th round pick Buffalo: Drew Stafford Winnipeg adds that 2nd/3rd line RW that they need for their first playoff appearance since the relocation. Buffalo gets a decent prospect who could play a 3rd line role for them next season, plus another draft pick. What does everyone think?
CRAZY_4_NAZZY
fair trade, i think that would be feasible
elvis15
Buffalo has plenty of centers, so they don't need another. I don't think Cormier has developed as was hoped anyway (10 points in 22 AHL games) to put him above anyone Buffalo already has (Ennis, Girgensens, Grigorenko, Flynn, Mitchell, McCormick, Reinhart, whoever they draft this year) to make this attractive for them. Hell, Stafford is 50% on 148 draws for Buffalo, they could use him there if they wanted to. If they don't want Cormier, would they take a 3rd for Stafford? While Cormier is not likely to put up 50+ points in the NHL, he is a fairly good 3rd/4th line center, as he plays a fairly good defensive game. While on a pure talent level Buffalo has a few centers that would be above him, they are lacking in someone who could play that bottom 6 shutdown center role next season better than Cormier could; excluding perhaps McCormick (who if I'm correct is UFA next season and will likely be traded at the deadline). In my opinion, Cormier is a lot like Maxim Lapierre in his ability and play-style.
Monty
Well, except for teams finishing in the top 5 spots, I wouldn't expect many teams to give up a first round pick in 2015 for Drew Stafford (other years worth as much). But because the draft is so deep, Buffalo won't get what they otherwise would like. So this makes sense; or, at least, is the foundation for something. Jets have been rumored to have interest in either Drew Stafford or Chris Stewart, so this is building off that rumor, which is fine. Stafford wouldn't be re-signed by the Jets if they were to acquire him, so a 3rd round draft is something they could live with giving up. Also, Cormier is far down on the depth chart and, if he is ever to be a 3rd or 4th line center in the, it won't be with the Jets, who have people ahead of him coming up. Like I said, makes sense for a stepping off point to get something going. But anything more from the Jets (i.e. 2nd round pick) is not worth it as Stafford wouldn't be re-signed. da.moose
I don't love Stafford but if I am Cheveldayoff and this is the best option then I would do it.
c00kies
Cormier is not a prospect, just a fringe NHLer.
