Kassian - E. Kane (Van/WPG)

Recommended Posts

I know Evander Kane is a healthy scratch because of "behaviour issues" but what if....

When NHL Gamecenter sent me a notification on my phone saying he was a late scratch and Kassian was a scratch, my mind started to wander.

To Van:

Evander Kane

3rd Round pick 2015

To Wpg:

Kassian

Higgins

Nicklas Jensen

We get a kid who, like Seguin, needs a change of scenery. Kassian has been passed over and over and doesn't seem to be in the teams plans going forward. Benning said he wanted to accumulate picks, and we'll get the 3rd round pick we traded away in the Kesler deal back in this deal.

Aaaaannnnnnd!

We have no RW depth at all and are almost $2 million over the cap

Burrows and Vrbata play RW, but I guess you're talking about RW moving forward.

Sedins Sedins Vrbata

Kane Bonino Burrows

Mathias Richie Vey

Hansen Horvat Dorsett

Moving forward I agree our right side looks weak, but that can't be the only thing holding you back on a deal.

Kane is $5.25M

Higgins is $2.5M

Kassian is $1.75M

Total = $4.25M

Bieksa + Hamhuis LTIR gives us loads of Cap space

Uh, Hamhuis isn't injured right now. And before you say it, you can't bank LTI space above the cap to use later, which is why it's important that Hamhuis isn't injured right now. That'll also come into play when Bieksa's back to being healthy.

Nut I'm not sure this would go through even without the cap issues. Higgins likely wouldn't have Winnipef as one of his approved destinations, and I've felt Winnipeg would probably want Shinkaruk if they ever moved Kane. Maybe that's changed a little with the Ehler pick, and maybe Hansen would be someone that would waive to go to Winnipeg, but I don't see the deal working.

Winnipeg has alot of small, flashy prospects: Petan, Ehlers, De Leo, Lipon, and not to mention their actual lineup is pretty small, Little and Perreault. I get what you're saying though, but I feel like they'd want Jensen's size and speed.

I didn't know our cap space was that tight.

It seems like a perfect fit for a.hockey trade between the two teams and centered around these two players. But being that they are battling each other in the standings it doesnt seem likely.

The parts make sense to me and I would think its fair. All young guys other than higgins. Two recent first round players for one. Changes of scenery needed.

I think that Benning would be reluctant to move Jensen though.

Kane Bonino Vrbata

Kenins Horvat dorsett

Insertion of Kane and switching of Burrows and Vrbata and all of a sudden we have a real good top 6! If Kane can be had for Kassian + Higgins + ???, that would be great but Kane scored 30 goals before, I doubt that Jets, especially their GM who has never made a player for player trade, would do this.

Well our RW depth still isn't too bad with

Vrbata

Burrows

Jensen (call up)

Hansen

Dorsett

Sedin - Sedin - Vrbata

Kane - Bonino - Burrows

Higgins - Vey - Jensen

Matthias - Horvat - Hansen/Dorsett

That looks pretty good if you can find the right combos.
