Time to rebuild

Let's be real.... we are not going to go far this season and it won't get better the next one either.

The Sedins are declining and it's time for Benning to think about our future first line.

Please JB do not trade our prospects or draft picks for a top 6 FWD. Maybe it's time to get more draft picks and you could get us some by saying bye to Higgins, Kassian, Lack/Markstrom. If I'm correct he said he wasn't going to do that and the very first thing he did was trading Forsling for Clendening.

Trading Horvat,Shinkaruk or Jensen could be a costly mistake in the long run so please be wise and be patient.

Untouchables: Virtanen, Horvat, 2015 1st and 2nd, 2016 1st. Preference is to add picks.

Retained vets: Sedins, Bieksa*. I'd hate to lose him, but Bieksa may have a change of heart and his salary next season is just 2.5mil.

Needs: Plenty. I'd start with defense first. We also need a top-notch center. With McEichel out of the picture, I'm liking Zacha if a top-tier big offensive defenseman is unavailable.

Avoid like the plague: Trading the untouchables above. Trading for a 'further along' expensive young scorer like Kessel who'll only delay the rebuilding process for half a decade and add more failure like it did for TO. This team is well beyond a bandaid fix.

Acceptable stop-gaps: Trades like the Clendening trade, in which a sell high 5th-round prospect like Forsling is exchanged for a similar guy further along. And signing UFA's. You have to fill out the roster somehow. But keep the years low.

These threads just chap my hide. The Sedins are doing just fine. If this team had a shred of secondary scoring, the Sedins would be doing even better than they currently are. We have seen this dog and pony show for like 10 years. Every time secondary scoring disappears, the Sedins production drops as they see all the best checkers and defenders every bloody shift.

Yet the lot of you myopians just see it as them being old, declining players. What's even worse, is you can't accept that there is not going to be a firesale followed by years of ineptitude. No GM is going to be able to go and sell off a slew of 3rd liners and expect that all the draft picks acquired are going to amount to anything in like 2-3 years or ever. But but but it's a deep draft...that doesn't mean that all players 1-100 are bonafide instant NHLers.

On top of this, they are still in a playoff position. Even if they make the playoffs, they will get a solid mid 1st round pick.

Stop trying to fix it. The current braintrust is familiar with the problems and rest assured they are working on fixing them all the while having a mandate to win from ownership. Have some faith that they know what they are doing.
