Sbisa sandbagging the team

Guy is -13 now. We're literally better without him.

I'm so pissed Benning did the Kesler trade like he did. Kesler was worth Bonino + 10th overall pick, straight up. They would have agreed, he just needed to play chicken. Now we are saddled with Sbisa, who may or may not ever develop into a good player.

I cringe every time he touches the puck.

Not getting Kesler + 10th is a huge mistake Benning made. It would have worked, and now we're stuck with Sbisa.

Benning's hands were tied...do you not think Benning had asked for the 10th overall?

You have 2 teams to trade with as per request of Kesler. Both teams you are trading with know this fact. While it would be great to expect a rabbit out of a hat, I think Benning did well given the situation. It's about the following years ahead anyway. I don't think Benning's eyes are set on this year specifically.

so your a better gm now...give benning a break... he was cornered and the ducks new it. as it was the ducks didn't really want to give up boino....remember it was just picks they wanted to give us and not a top pick.....

The more I watch, the more I'm learning that the plus minus stat is useless.

It depends so damn much on the team around the player.

Is the defense solid? Is the goaltending solid nightly? Are there injuries in the line-up that may cause the team to get scored upon more than usual? Are the coaches systems right for the team?/Are his systems working? Are players around you able to execute them?

It's a very rough judgement of how a player is defensively.

I'll use Phil Kessel as example A, he was able to go +23 on a Bruins team, and has never been able to go positive on the Leafs. Is that his fault? No, Toronto has been known to have defensive & goal tending issues for what at this point feels like forever.

Don't you remember? Benning was offered Etem, Theodore, and the 10th overall pick and Benning said no. Just like Gillis turned down Kadri, Bozak + for Luongo and Gillis said no. Clearly CDC needs to manage the Canucks.

also, Edler had the worst +/- last year and this year he is the Canucks' best defenseman.

Exactly. If we are going to rebuild....which I hope we will, we can't be negative all the time. Let mistakes happen for a couple years while the players learn.

I agree. Mistakes are part of learning, so long as you're learning from them and becoming a better player.

As a few pointed out to me recently, defence is an extremely difficult position. At least he's trying out there, contrary to a number of other players I could name. Let's not write off a 24 year old quite yet.

As far as the trade goes, Kesler named 2 teams, but the other being Chicago couldn't afford him. Plus, if it HAD to be one of those teams, I would've gagged seeing him in a Blackhawks jersey. It's bad enough in a Ducks.

People are way too critical of Luca Sbisa. He makes some mistakes but so do all young blueliners. There is a ton of upside with this guy. He's big, hits hard, has a big shot, and skates well. I'd take all that over someone who's always good defensively but adds nothing offensively or physically.

lol. pretty much the worst example you could have used. kessel makes semin look like a selke finalist, he was plus 23 despite himself 'cause he had Chara et al.

Josh Gorges, a proven solidly defensive player who's having the lowest plus/minus in the league while playing on Buffalo, is a much better example.

I recall the Ducks were not willing to budge on 10th overall. Did you read otherwise that there was a deal in place for the 10th? Please cite source if so. Not rhetorical, I really can't recall 10th ever being realistically offered.

This....The Ducks were not parting with that pick...There was no bidding war for Keslers services..,it was a one horse race..Murray had the hammer in the deal, not Benning (who was basically trying to unload a heavy personality that didn't want to be here)...We cannot fully assess the deal until Jared McCann comes of age.

you should get your facts straight before you write on here...we don't know what benning was offered...your just using rumors you heard to make your point...gillis never turned down that trade..toronto wanted us to pick up part of luongo's contract...but the aquilinni's refused so that killed that deal....benning had his hands tied by kesler and anaheim could dictate the terms...

My point was exactly that.... Kessel doesn't have much to do with his +/- He;s a goal scorer through and through, if you put a good team around him, you can make him look better defensively than he is. I'm sure the same can be said for alot of other players.

It would have worked, and now we're stuck with Sbisa.

Benning can dump him and use the cap space to pick up another FA.

Sbisa was brought in as depth but the Hamhuis injury had mgmt. push him into the top 4.

He does have 2 game winning goals and plays 16-20 minutes each night.

No other d man has 2 game winners.

Hamhuis -0 goals on the year.

Bieksa-3 goals on the year-1 GWG.

Tanev -2 goals on the year-1 GWG

Stanton-1 goal on the year-0 GWG

Weber-4 goals on the year-1 GWG

Edler- 5 goals on the year-0 GWG

SBISA- 3 goals on the year- 2 GWG

How exactly do you know that? You friends with the Anaheim GM or something? Maybe we should hire you since you can apparently do a better job than JB.

Benning got the best he possibly could given an extremely difficult situation.
