Messed up claim situation - Need opinions/suggestions

Ok, so like one and a half year ago, a friend of my moms came over to drop off something and while she was leaving she backed into a neighbours car parked across the street ( right across our house).

The neighbours have a surveillence camera and upon seeing the video said it was our car that caused the accident. My mom's friends car and our car is similiar in color, well at least look like they are from the crapty camera footage, but no license plate can be viewed from the video and our rear lights are located in different places. Also, our vehicle was not even home at the time of the incident.

It's been going on for almost two years now, and is getting really annoying. I know we should have told them right off the bat, but we didn't and ended up screwing ourselves over. Our insurance went up over a grand!

I dont want this to get messier then it already is, what should we do?!

We didn't tell ICBC that we knew who backed into the car, and so they put it on us a 100% and our insurance went up ( blah blah).

What would happen if we told ICBC now that we know who actually caused the accident? It's been going on for almost two years now, and is getting really annoying. First suggestion, take this part out of your post if you don't want them to find out. Everyone from A-Z reads CDC, you would be surprised.

Second suggestion, if you don't follow the first suggestion get a good lawyer, cause you will find out what happens pretty soon.

Your moms friend has a duty to report the claim to icbc, I am guessing she didn't do that which makes her a criminal. Hope you are not friends with her anymore because she should have taken resposibility for this. She will likely be charged, if ICBC believes you, but why would they a year and a half later once you found out your insurance went up? As a claims adjuster (not icbc) to me thats a big red flag. Should have told the truth at the start.

Should have told the truth.

My mom's friend had her car parked on one of the steepest hills I have ever seen, then a car parked infront of her so she had to put into reverse. As soon as she did the car went down in literally less then a second and hit the car behind her. She left her cell number on a note saying that she had damaged the cars front bumper in the wiper blade of the car. She didn't need to do this as no one was there at the time of the incident and the driver wasn't there, the car he drove was black and it was pretty dark in the area it was parked.

Then she went home and called ICBC and told them what happened. She paid like a $500 cause there wasn't much damage. The driver called her back and was not angry at all but instead was very grateful for her gesture and thanked her numerous times during the phone call for doing it. After paying the fine she moved on. Point is if you told the truth that's what would have happened.

Why would you basically accept blame for this for an entire year? So your car has no damage, is a different color, and all your neighbor has is blurry surveillance footage?

unless you're leaving something out, that sounds like a pretty weak case against you. Why not get a lawyer and fight it? Makes no sense.

I don't even care that you didn't rat your friend out. I probably wouldn't have either... But if you didn't do it, and there's no legitimate proof showing that you did - I'd fight that to the bitter end.

Kind of messed up that she let you guys take the fall for it. Did she know what was going on?

If she did, she is terribly irresponsible and probably doesn't deserve any sort of friendship from you're family.

She never reported it and never spoke to my mom about it. We never said anything either until we saw the video, and no one we know has a car like that, hers is the most similiar.

It went back and forth a bunch of times and ICBC isn't the best at getting back to you the fastest. Believe me, this hasn't been a fun time for us. We're thinking of getting a lawyer.

It isn't "aiding" or abetting a hit and run when we have no actual proof that they did it. Nor did she admit to us that she did it. We know we did not do it, obviously we're going to investigate when we see the video in front of us.

So that's libel?
