What did Benning offer Winnipeg for Kane?

Gretzky to Lemieux

I'll start off with saying that I was all in for Evander Kane coming home. I personally would never give up Horvat or Virtanen but I was fine giving away Mccann in a package only if the deal was right. I've heard many sources say that Benning and the Canucks was one of the front runners for Kane until Buffalo offered the blockbuster trade for him. Kassian, one of our goalies and a couple of picks were all rumoured to have been offered by Benning, but what do you guys think he was willing to give up? We know that Horvat and Virtanen were never offered by Benning because we all have huge expectations for them, but what deal would Benning have made that would keep Winnipeg interested for so long?(until the blockbuster of course) Feel free to post some links to articles that have any inside news on Kane and the Canucks.

Winnipeg declines your offer.

Benning was never interested in giving Horvat or Virtanen away, but Winnipeg was supposedly interested in our offer right up to the blockbuster. What would Benning have offered for them to be so interested in? (other then Horvat or Virtanen)

I'm assuming it would've been Tanev seeing as how they ended up getting Myers.

I don't recall him saying anything about that.

I think it's pretty safe to say Horvat was going nowhere. Althogh Benning has said he was willing to move prospects for similar prospects further along in their development. Virtanen down the road is suppose to look something like Kane.. That's what I figured the offer was gonna start around.

As for the Tanev speculation, that's probably the only other viable asset that would have interested the Jets, although our defensive core, and defense prospect pool are both pretty lackluster currently. That move wouldn't have really helped us now or later in my opinion.

"The players we wouldn’t include in the deal were the Horvats, the Virtanens, the McCanns (Canucks first-round picks Bo Horvat, Jake Virtanen and Jared McCann),” said Benning. “I think we made a fair offer. But they ended up making a big deal and we didn’t have the players to match that deal.”
