Magnum P I
With the news that the leafs owners have okayed a complete fire sale in Toronto, who would you like to see benning go after, who do you think you might go after, what do you think it might cost, or would you rather him do nothing? In my humble opinion I think the Vancouver Canucks number one priority has to be re-signing Chris Tanev ,and work on acquiring james van riemsdyk as it is been reported he is one of the tradable players. We are in need of a bonafied second line scorer and he would be a perfect young fit imo. My prediction would be benning going hard after him. And I would even be ok with seeing mcann included in a deal For James Mcann , bonino and a first round Pick Next year Thoughts ?

ice orca
Pretty hard to weed through the stink, and Dreger will be going into overdrive to pump up the Leafs and rundown the offers from other teams.
Master Mind
JVR is the only one of interest for me, but his price will be too high. Not worth trading for any rentals. Go after Franson in July.
TOMapleLaughs
Trade for nobody. We don't need to help them out. As for UFA's in the summer, nobody really stands out. Franson's going to be overpaid, long-term, and he won't really fit in our cap structure going forward. We've been there, done that with Santo. And we already have a ton of players like Winnik. Screw TO and their ruined franchise.
wallstreetamigo
I would agree that re-signing Tanev is a priority but only for a reasonable deal. He is a solid defensive dman but he is not worth a big money long term deal with his lack of offense and physicality. It always seems to be drama around his contract negotiations every year too. Not sure if that is his side or the Canucks or a bit of both but it is getting annoying that it seems to be a last minute thing every year. Hopefully they will get something done before the deadline that makes sense for the team long term. Tanev at a reasonable contract is a huge positive for our team. Tanev wanting to be paid too much money for too long is a trade chip Benning should be looking at trading. I think Franson or Gardiner would be a great fit here. JVR would be a nice addition to the top 6. But realistically Benning does not have the assets to get any of them based on who and what he has said he will not trade. Bieksa would need to go to Toronto to get Franson or Gardiner to fit cap-wise and while TO is looking to go young they are also looking for a real leader and perhaps Bieksa fits that bill for them. Who knows. If they are looking to shore up their leadership then maybe they would take guys like Bieksa and Higgins.

Sometimes it's worth the overpay to get a kid that good I wouldn't mind seeing bonino and mcann go for him

MoneypuckOverlord
pretty much nobody, they all suck. We can move for Kessel, yes, but that means we have to move 4 other good players to get rid of him just no, no no just no. their team sucks. franson if he resigns here and they can move bieksa for him.... Asking price is a 1st round pick and a prospect.

They all suck? Jvr already has 20 goals 50+points in 63 games or so at a cap hit of about 4.25 mill a year. And that's on the leafs. He's also signed at that for 6 years. His contract is unreal. Would basically be as good as it gets for us imo. Sometimes u gotta pay The price to get ahead. This is one of those times. Players like that with contracts that good don't come along often, if ever usually

aGENT
Franson, Gardiner or JVR would be lovely but really they'er all pipe dreams as we can't afford the assets to get/retain them so....nobody?

It could be worth the overpay, and sending Bonino and McCann is a package the Canucks could part with. Though I think TO would want Horvat/Virtanen instead, which we can't afford to give up. Chalky
I'll take Frasnon as a UFA. I'll also accept JVR, Rielly and or Gardiner. I'll pass on Kadri and Bozak thanks.
desiboynux4lifee*******
Did you guys forget this is Dave Nonis we are talking about. The asking price for any Toronto player will be far too high, so lets just wait until free agency and try to sign Franson.

They'd want a high pick too. We're not at a point where we can pay those sorts of prices and someone else bidding will be able to. In a few years when the new core is starting to establish itself and contracts like the Sedins start coming off the books we can entertain shipping out prospects and picks and taking on a bad contract in exchange for talented players hitting their prime. We're not there yet.
oldnews
Percy. Bozak is a guy they devalue significantly, but cap space is an issue. If they'll take Miller for Bozak and Reimer, perhaps I'd do that lol. JVR is probably not realistic. A big no thanks to Kessel, Phaneuf or Gardiner - hockey intelligence is the most important ingredient imo.
