[Report] Kings interested in Phaneuf

Recommended Posts

@DennisTFP:

On HNIC Friedman and Cox affirm Kings interest in Dion Phaneuf "it's been obvious"- @FriedgeHNIC

@SportsRantsNHL:

#Kings are "intrigued" by the possibility of adding Dion Phaneuf, according to Elliotte Friedman of HNIC

@TSNBobMcKenzie:

As @AndyTonge1 reported, two TOR scouts, incl DPP Mark Hunter, in Manchester today to see AHL Monarchs, where Mike Richards currently toils.

@TSNBobMcKenzie:

@One might surmise TOR hasn't entirely closed door on Richards but LA/TOR have had other talks, too. Nothing front burner at this time.

@TSNBobMcKenzie:

@mayorNHL: ICYMI last night - Which LA Kings prospect is TOR said to be eying? http://t.co/MqgzfHtG0n #LAKings #Leafs Good read.

Phaneuf for Mike Richards+? Seems possible.

As bad/inconsistent/lost as Phaneuf is on the ice, one team where he could fit in and turn it around would be LA. That defensive structure and sandpaper they play with, would be a smooth transition especially with the talent the Kings have.

Leafs should be looking to get younger if Dion is traded. Just Richards (a dud player for a cap dump swap) and a prospect would be really bad value. TO needs to try to get more young pieces than that. If it was Richards + Kempe + pick/prospect should be fair I gues and Leafs would free up $27 million. One would think they'd need a dman young gun coming back b/c Dion & Franson both gone with no replacement would be horrendous.

Edit: some food for thought - over the next 3 years, LA will be paying Drew Doughty $21.5M; the Leafs will pay Dion $23.5M

Bad contract for bad contract might be enough

And let's not forget who's behind the bench for LA - the man who made Phaneuf a star before he fell off

This could be a great deal for LA if TO takes Richards back and Phaneuf finds his game again under Sutter in LA

TOR could actually try and cash in on a Mike Richards deal. Maybe he'll find some traction in Toronto. Could be a win-win (if that is even possible with these two involved) :lol:

Like I've said before, I don't hate any teams or players in the league. Not Calgary, Toronto etc... Edmonton I pity a bit because of how disorganized the management is there. But up until this season, I've had zero interest in what happens in cowtown. And that's been purely because of the boring set of players they've had. Nothing besides Kipper & Iggy for a decade.

Same goes for Toronto. Nothing of interest for so many years now. Back in the day with Gilmour, Sundin, Potvin I was kinda liking Toronto even.

Back tot the topic at hand, Toronto needs to shed both Phaneuf and Kessel for sure, add Kadri & Reimer and start finding gems like Bennet, Monahan, Gaudreau, Rämö, Granlund, Jooris, Giordano, Reinhart. That's going to be exciting to watch in the near future, even if you're not a Flames -fan.

Are you kidding me?

Richards isn't going to help the Leafs long term. He's cap relief. Toronto if they are moving forward will want a 1st and another roster player and prospect. No I'm not kidding. If Phaneuf is going to thrive in LA, a 1st and Richards alone is a joke. The Leafs need youth.

Phaneuf alone has more points than Richards does, and Richards is so bad he's in the minors. Maybe they can't get Toffoli but they need a forward put into the deal to make it worthwhile.

I believe Richards would thrive in Toronto. He could be the teams hero on a nightly basis. He to me looks like a player who thrives when there is high expectations for him. Being a 3rd and 4th line centre isn't the type of position he would thrive in. Could be a good leader for a rebuilding leafs. You don't get to the Stanley cup finals as a top center if ur not talented. Both teams would benefit but TO would need a good prospect returning if they are going to eat cap which they likely will/would.
