[Value of] B Schenn / Couturier

Couturier (and Read) face the strongest quality of competition on the Flyers - Schenn 18th.

Couturier get 38.8% offensive zone starts (with +5% finishes) - Schenn gets 61.3% (-7.4% finishes).

Schenn's corsi on is +2.98, Couturier's -5.51 - considering deployment, the edge clearly goes to Couturier.

Schenn is 43.9% in the face-off circle, Couturier is 49.2%

Schenn has 32 points, Couturier 25 pts, 12 of Schenn's pts are pp while Couturier has 4 pts on the man advantage - so their 5 on 5 points are virtually even.

Couturier has a +13 turover differential, Schenn is +5.

Couturier is +2 while Schenn in -3 - the significance here is that Couturier plays much, much harder minutes.

They are both RFAs after next season - Schenn making 750k more than Couturier.

All these underlying realities have translated in a similar fashion throughout their young careers - Schenn with 41 pts last year while Couturier scored 39. Schenn getting heavy ozone starts against much softer competition - Couturier matching his 5 on 5 scoring while playing a shutdown role.

All things considered, Couturier is the considerably better puck possession player, considerably better two way player, and when you put their offensive production in context, Couturier's production is arguably quite a bit more impressive, coming in much harder, less opportune minutes.

Not putting Schenn down at all - he's a good young forward, but between the two, for me, it's a no-brainer - I'd take Couturier.

Thank you. I'd take Couts, the complete player that plays the tough minutes against the best players, over Schenn and it's not even close.

People are definitely basing the players off point totals and hype.

Couturier isn't goin anywhere but Schenn has been in the rumour mill here and there since the off season but acquiring another nhl centre with already sedin and bonino as 2 of the top 3 centres keeps horvat stuck on the 4th line next year

To Van: Schenn

To phi: kassian, corrado, 1st pick 2015

That's why I would like to move Bonino as part of a potential package for Schenn.

^ Schenn has been converted to wing mainly. He's taken maybe 30 faceoffs all year. I've heard his name in the rumour mill too... I think he'll be easier and less expensive to land.

Tanev + Virtanen/Mccann + a 2nd is the value most probably.

Sorry CDC, please dont even mention Higgins when you are trading for a top 6.

Over payment. No chance he's worth that much.

Ya it's possible but I think bonino at a very capable 1.9m cap hit is a player the canucks would rather keep and even if they do trade him, subtracting bonino from the line up and other assets and only adding schenn (although he's a great player) we aren't really "upgrading" the team that drastically to make a sizemic move like this

That's true right now, but with Schenn being younger and having potentially more offense to give, maybe it's worth the risk? I now Boninos cap hit is quite nice, but I just don't see him as our legit 2nd line center going forward.

you evidently don't realize how important Bonino is - at both ends of the ice - to this team.

Oh for sure bonino isn't a bonafied 2nd line centre in this league. He's a really solid 3rd line centre

Look what Kane fetched and he's an enigmatic forward who isn't even playing who has a ton of baggage.

I love that deal - for Winnipeg - and it's more complicated than isolating Kane - I would never have given up Armia, a 1st in this draft, and Myers+ for that return, but that deal is irrelevant here.

You are obviously not looking at the draft very closely - the kinds of players that will be available in the mid first round this year - the types of young defensemen that will be available... I think you'd be nuts to give up the Canucks 1st + Kassian, + Corrado, for Brayden Schenn. Aside from seriously overvaluing him, you are shallowing the future of the blue line - not nearly worth it.

If we have to trade even 2/3 of Kassian + Corrado + 2015 1st for B Schenn, I'm not interested. We don't need to mortgage our future depth, especially when our first round pick this year in a deep draft could very well be a real impact player!

All things considered, our defense prospect pool is missing a true top-2 can't-miss type player, and I believe there's a good chance to get that with our 2015 1st this year.
