[Speculation]Chara might get moved

Mark Spector of Sportsnet: Spector on Bruins Zdeno Chara.

Zdeno Chara turns 38 in March, and has become to the Bruins what Jarome Iginla was to the Calgary Flames: that ageing superstar whom the Bruins need to make the playoffs for the next couple of seasons, but whose value will then slip to the point where any trade return on him is negligible.

The Bruins wouldnt trade Chara now, as the playoffs are still a possibility, but the decline has begun.

The Bruins could use a right winger and a top-four defenseman before the deadline.

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Zdeno Chara will be 38 next month and has two years left on his deal at a $6.8 million cap hit. He was a runner-up for the Norris last season, but hes slowing down. Hes played almost 1,200 regular season games, to go with 141 playoff games. His salary drops to $5 million next year, and $4 million in 2016-17. Is it time for the Bruins to move him? Would the Ducks be interested? GM Bob Murray wouldnt trade any of Cam Fowler, Hampus Lindholm or Sami Vatanen, but hey do have Shea Theodore, young forwards in Emerson Etem, Nick Ritchie, Nicolas Kerdiles, Kyle Palmieri, Rickard Rakell, Devante Smith-Pelly, William Karlsson, Jacob Silfverberg, and a 1st round pick.

Should the Bruins trade Zdeno Chara?

What's with these GMs holding on to aging assets? They should be moving them while they can get value for them. Haven't these GMs been on CDC lately? It's so easy that it's the go-to advice in every trade the vets/get younger/canucks wont win the Cup so just rebuild now thread.

This is literally just a writer suggesting it would be a good idea because he's declining and aging. Not much of a report. He doesn't even talk about there being chatter that Chara is actually available after the season. This is purely idle speculation.

Hope he stays in the east.

Actually if a Western powerhouse like Anaheim can waste assets on aging guys like Chara, yes it might be harder this year and maybe next year (when were not contenders) but down the road Anaheim will have depth problems when Perry and Getzlaf gets older.

So if we don't have to face a combination of Theodore, Ritchie, DSP, Etem, etc. down the roads, not a bad things to see Chara a year or two.

Chara is too old now for a big playoff push.

Did you guys see how slow/tired he looked when he played us? Only like 50 games in too, his body is just.. I bet playing 1 game is the equivalence of two games for other players cause he's so fricken' big.. He already started having fatigue problems last year vs MTL, i'm sure it's only gotten worse. He really should be limited to like 17~ minutes a night, but that won't happen since he's their #1..

pure speculation

this is not a trade deadline topic either

a trade like this would happen in the off season if it would happen at all

and most unlikely

some players just belong with one team

and should be permitted to end things with that team

iginla was younger and calgary was a much worse team when he was moved
