(Propose)Trade for picks/flip for 2nd line help

Recommended Posts

Propose trading Hansen to Winnipeg for 2nd.

Higgins to any contender interested for 2nd.

Flip these picks along with Jensen to Toronto for Van Riemsdyke.

Sedin Sedin Burrows

Van Reimsdyke Horvat Vrbata

Vey Bonino Kassian

Dorsett Matthias Richardson

Kenins

OR

Flip picks along with Bonino to Columbus for Ryan Johansen.

Sedin Sedin Burrows

Vey Johansen Vrbata

Dorsett Matthias Kassian

Kenins Horvat Richardson

Jensen

Cap fits. We retain our own picks and only give up picks we obtained through trades and another piece. Improves second line and I think it balances competitiveness today with future development.

Is enough going the other way?

Toronto would ask for A LOT more than that for James van reimsdyke, even though we may think that is enough. And since they would be asking for our best young players and high draft picks it would probably be better just to keep Jensen and the two seconds we would get from the Higgins and Hansen trades.

A more realistic thing might be trading the two seconds for a a late first like we saw in the 2014 NHL draft. It was NY islanders getting the 25th overall pick in exchange for 2 second round picks.

They could do something similar or try to move into the top 10.

Johansen is pretty much untouchable I'd think, but JVR may be on the table considering the fire-sale going on. They obviously want picks and very early-20 year old prospects.

TO VAN: James van Reimsdyke

TO TOR: Jensen + 2nd

Toronto get a future 20-30 goal scorer and around the 40-50th overall pick in a very deep draft for a current 20-30 goal scorer who's got about 3-4 good seasons left in him, and not going to be much help on a team fully committed to the rebuild. Toronto's been fleeced before, maybe Jensen may be all we need to give up.

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian

JVR - Bonino - Vbrata

Higgins - Matthias - Vey

Kenins - Horvat - Burrows

Hansen

Each line has considerable size, speed and skill. That sort of forward depth is what it takes to win in the playoffs. If we want, we could flip one of our vets like Higgins for a 2nd round pick to get that back to a contender (eg. Pittsburgh, Detroit, Montreal etc.), or combine Higgins with Markstrom/Lack for a top-4 defenceman.
