Mike Vanderhoek
Leddy is very much worth the deal just signed lol. Looking at the salary breakdown seems very fair, he is being very underrated here which is no surprise. There is no way I would pay Tanev near the annual caphit that Leddy is now earning. Tanev is too one dimensional and opens himself up to wearing down and taking a lot of punishment. He simply doesn't have the offense either, so we shouldn't be screaming to trade Tanev for fearing these will be numbers he earns with Vancouver. Tanev cannot earn more than 4m per here it won't work.
Noseforthenet
Leddy shoots leftPardon me. Right Sided D. One of the few that plays left on the right side. He played to the right of Keith.
Master Mind
Bit of a pay raise but imo, THIS is how future core players should be paid. Not these silly bridge deals "just to see". IMO, best to just sign the player and make him happy and focused. If a team doesnt already know what they have then its simply their own fault for not properly assessing what they have. That being said, Leddy has a cup and has proven himself that he is out of the shadow of Duncan Keith. I think bridge deals are much better. Look at how Edmonton is doing, they signed all the young guys to long-term deals. The cap hit for Tavares is 5.5M, and I don't think Leddy is anywhere close to being as valuable as him. Offensive dmen get paid, simple as that. And Leddy long term is worth his contract extension imo. Tanev at 4 is a smoking deal for him imo. 3.5 would be better. Hunter.S-Kerouac
The term worries me a lot can happen in 7 years. Good for them though.
Master Mind
Yeah but he's 23 and only getting better Still isn't worth the same cap hit as Tavares. I understand that this is often the price needed to keep guys around, but you should always use the best player as a measuring stick as to how much they should make, IMO. In 3 years Tavares will be making more than Leddy. Unless he takes a serious pay cut.
missioncanucksfan
samesieson most other teams you are probably correct but this is The Islanders where stars have come to cut their teeth and run. Its ice to see that team rising from the ashes and signing their own key free agents for once.

And their agents probably threatened that their clients would leave asap if they dont sign their long term deals. Those guys also deserve every penny of what they are getting. Its not THEIR fault that management goes out and spends huge on a Pouliot and neuters their cap space. The fans come to watch Hall/Nuge/Eberle...not Derek Roy or Hendricks
VanIsleCanucks
Tanev and his agent are smiling right now ! Leddy will probably finish with 40 points this year...so no sorry Tanev.
coastal.view
this contract only makes sense if the salary cap continues to go up otherwise it is a crazy deal boston handed out a number of similar contracts and now is hamstrung by the cap why not make the deal shorter and with less annual hit until the future salary cap issue is clearer
UFCanuck
Minnesota traded him for Cam Barker. Not as stupid as Mcphee with Forsberg, but still stupid.
