Do the Canucks need a face off specialist ?

Horvat has esentially adopted that role and is gradually growing to serving the same Purpose for us as Malhotra did in 2011.

Except he's alot more skilled then Manny was for us, even before his injury.

Do we need more faceoff help? No, we need our first and second line centres to be better. But thats just IMO.

Yes we 100% do.

I'd give up draft picks for Vermette.

It's not like benning was finding gems in the second and third rounds with the bruins

The only 2nd rounder the bruins had that's made any nhl impact is sooner with 12 assist and no goals. Dating back to 2007.

2006 they drafted lucic.

Ship out our second for faceoff help. It's not like we're guaranteed roster guys with our second picks.

It's well-known that the 2015 2nd is more valueable than usual. The 2016 2nd is on the table. But for Derek MacKenzie? LOL!

Vermette is also not worth what the cost will be. A serious contender will likely be urged to pay more than we will.

Meanwhile, Richardson isn't out all season, and him coming back improves the overall faceoff ability of the team. Done.

The off-season is when most GM's make their moves, and Benning made a lot.

You have to keep in mind Cap implications how much space Vcr has and the length of contracts MacKenzie is nothing but a rental

MacKenzie is one of the worst players in the NHL and would be waiver wire fodder already if it weren't for his so-called faceoff expertise, which is of course inflated due to his utter lack of icetime against competition of any worth. So why bother? We already have Richardson, and even a 50% Richardson is twice the player that MacKenzie is.

Horvat kind of is that guy, but I don't think burning him out or overwhelming him is the best route to go. It would be nice to find another guy preferably a right handed guy to help insulate Horvat...but those are rare commodities.

It won't come cheap, hopefully Richy can comeback soon but then again he isn't a faceoff wizard himself.

Definitely need Henrik, Vey and Bonino to step it up in the dot...just not good enough from them.

The Bruins had 48 faceoffs and Bergeron took 38 of them! And won most of them....

Figure out what he is doing and copy that?

Bergeron is the top face off player in the league, tied with Malhotra at 60% they're like hens back tetth, there ain't to many around and are essential for a run in the play-offs IMO

What are the chances our second rounder will even play in the nhl...

Boston / JB haven't had a good 2nd since lucic almost a decade ago. Vancouver's 2nd haven't been great either .

Trade the second and win a cup.

We need a face off coach imo. Someone who can help the guys we have be much better at faceoffs. We dont really have a roster spot without shipping someone out but if we could a faceoff guy would help.

Faceoffs are critical to play the way the canucks want to play. Henrik, Bonino, and Vey need to be much better. Henrik may have to eventually move to the wing if he cant get his faceoffs up to par. Assuming they could find a center to play between the Sedins. They need to start with the puck to be at their most effective.

2015? Very high.

So are you guaranteeing a cup? With Vermette (which will likely cost more than a 2nd)? If so, then bring it on. Because it's cup or bust. If not, then it's too much to pay for a redundant element here. We already have Richardson and have no real need for a rental at all due to injured players coming back and the youth injection.

Vermette the is most definitely worth a pick or two, the guy would slot in well on the Canucks

Trade a bottom 6 forward or two for some picks and trade some picks for Vermette.. He have too many forwards right now anyways.

In the end it would be 2 bottom 6 and maybe a pick for Vermette

For a few months. Then would have to make sure he re signs.

Rentals are a waste allot of the time.

see Derik Roy when he came here for example. We lost Kevin Connauton who is playing top 4 on the jackets this year, and a second rounder who ended up being Remi Elie who is ripping it up in the OHL right now. And for what......6 regular season points and 1 playoff assist ?

He's 32 and we already have better stop-gaps available to us. Considering the cost is more a 1st and a prospect. Why not just use free agency to sign this guy if we truly needed him as an additional stop-gap?

Benning's going to have to use the off-season to make serious moves. The costs are just too high.
