luckylager
Or if everything falls into place next year: Sedin - Sedin - Kass Virtanen - Horvat - Vrbata Higgins - Bonino - Hansen Kenins - Mattias - Dorsett Pretty solid if all goes well (would still have good call up depth on the farm). Nice to add another winger and dman - i.e. trade away some vets (love Burrows but don't see how he fits anymore). So you're keeping Higgins over Burrows, and it's Burr who doesn't fit because he can actually be effective on every line? Dude... Edit- thanks for posting Alf, hadn't seen that beauty yet, that boy is strong!
wallstreetamigo
1st time I've seen it as well; jesus christ he's strong.... Ok.... Virtanen - Horvat - Kassian in 2020? How about 2015-16?
Angry Goose
Bennings pick of Virtanen at #6 last June was controversial among fans who wanted finesse players like Ehlers or Nylander but I really have to ask.... How can any Canuck fan who has watched the Canucks get pushed around for years not like the drafting of a rugged fast power forward from the lower mainland???? Bo Horvat and Kenins seem to be playing well, and Virtanen is very much like them, with even more potential to score goals?
Cupless44
You may have misunderstood my post. I said how can any Canuck fan not like drafting Virtanen

Gaudette Celly
Thing is too, every hit of his I've seen has been CLEAN. He'll get challenged for them regardless, but is able to throw down, too.
billabong
Anyone else notice from the world juniors and this clip that virtanen is a hard guy to knock over?! He is a rock on his skates

d_washington
Playing in a kid league doesn't mean anything in the NHL So 6'4" 223 lbs is a kid to you?
Honky Cat
I saw video of him doing a bench fly- by after scoring a goal,..but on the oppositions bench..tapping all their gloves (which were resting on the boards)....It was very funny,..talk about getting under the opponents skin. Dude... Edit- thanks for posting Alf, hadn't seen that beauty yet, that boy is strong! Not a slight at Burrows, just look at the numbers. Higgins has more points than Burrows playing a lesser role. He gets paid about two million less than Burrows and has better underlying numbers. He knows his role, plays it to a tee and is a great third liner. Crabcakes
It's about body position and being ready for the hit (timing) and quick thinking to take advantage. To the guy who criticised someone for saying the defender was a kid, well, the kid wasn't ready for Jake clearly. NHL players have seen more even if they are no bigger. Having said that, you can't help but be impressed. He likely wouldn't be able to do that in the NHL but we know that he'll hold his own at the very least. Bodes well for making the squad next year I think.
Provost
I wasn't a big fan of taking him at #6... figured we could probably have traded down to #10-12 and still gotten him plus another asset or two for the trade. There were still some other great players we could have taken if by some chance he had been sniped before us. I hope I am proven to be a complete idiot for thinking that taking that risk would have been OK.
blackpluto96
A guy who is 6' 4" and weighs over 220 lbs is the same size no matter what league he is in. Having the strength to hammer a guy that size over the boards DOES translate to the NHL. just to add to that...that big dude was crouching down ready to lay his hip into Virtanen so it's even more amazing what the end result was. Also another element is how fast Virtanen came up to the contact point. He got there before the teenage shrek could get 100% into his hip-check posture and then got laid out. Beauty! khay
Virtanen-Matthias-Kassian = enough said! I would prefer a center with the ability to get those wingers the puck rather than Matthias. Having three big guys might not be the best way to form a line and Matthias' strengths are in other things. I'd rather have LW-Horvat-Virtanen or LW-Vey-Virtanen. Kassian to stay with the Sedins. *Buzzsaw*
I have been really excited about Virtanen... I think we got the best player out of the 2014 draft. At the same time, I am really hoping the kid doesn't injure himself again... we need him for his offensive skills as well. No way you can continue to hit like this and not get injured. Hope he gets the word from the Canucks to be a little more restrained.
