Golden Goal, 5 years ago today

The city was so much fun to be in for those few weeks. Terrific vibe everywhere. I'll never forget how stunned I was when Crosby scored off that slick pass from Iggy. Miller had no idea what was coming on that sharpshooting snapshot off the wall.

I bought the HDDVD set of the Olympics and also the Mens Hockey games. I'll be hungover like hell tomorrow and will definitely put these on.

Game against Russia and the Gold medal game ought to sort me out nicely.

Now I'm in an even greater mood!

Crosby was below average all tournament. He wouldn't have had his moment if not for guys busting their ass and giving 100% like Nash, getz, Iggy, lui etc...

The Golden moment was luongos save before that goal. It's a shame Crosby got crowned for having a poor tournament. Lui was the reason.

Dear god, I couldn't agree more.

Seriously? That "amazing" save was a wrist shot from close to the blue line with no traffic in front. Was not a tough save at all. The fact that Lu almost let it in is kinda scary. That was a routine save that he almost screwed up. Lu just had to play solid. He didn't steal any game for Canada.

And as "below average" Crosby was for the tournament, he still had 4 goals 3 assists in 7 games. Averaged a point a game. Don't see how that is a poor tournament. Of course though cause it's Crosby people will sh!t on him no matter what he does. Even if he does stuff like score the OT goal to win Canada the gold medal. God forbid we give him some praise for once. Even if he didn't play up to Crosby standards for the tournament, maybe give him some praise for coming through when it mattered the most.

It was a team win. Every win in hockey is since its a TEAM game. To say that Lu was the reason is ridiculous. Crosby wasn't the reason either. As a TEAM Canada was stacked, that is the reason.

That goal in the 3rd that put us into OT was one of the worst feelings I've ever had in my life. America was turning it on. "We were so close" I thought, but I still had a little bit of hope we could put it away in OT. After some tense few moments when the Americans had the puck in our end Canada skated into the offensive end. Then that seemingly harmless pass to Crosby on the wall and that seemingly harmless shot on net happened. The puck was in. I lost my voice from yelling so loud, I could hear the whole neighbourhood erupt in cheers of celebration.

The best part was the drive home though. Every single driver was honking their horns, pedestrians were cheering, waving flags and everyone you saw had the biggest smile imaginable on their faces congratulating and waving to one another. The sense of Euphoria was one I don't know if I'll ever feel again in my lifetime. Such a wonderful time for coming together as a nation and celebrating the game we all love.
