Webster6
I think there’s a good chance that McDavid is going to end up landing in the Desert. It’s the ultimate of conspiracies, that of which being, the league trying to force Arizona to stay in the desert to promote hockey. Although I won’t to be taking the conspiracy route for my argument. My speculation is based on the fact that the Coyotes have lost 9 straight, and although the Sabres are 4 points back in the standings with the same amount of games played. The ‘Yotes just unloaded Antoine Vermette, as well as Keith Yandle. Moves which will dramatically impact their play in a negative way and in turn, their ability to contend for points. The Sabres are only on a 1 game losing streak and are also 3-5-2 in their last 10, good for 8 points. Meanwhile the Coyotes are 1-9 in their last 10 games. Both teams have a brutal goal differential, the Sabres being the league worst with -89, and the Coyotes coming in as a close second with -76. It will likely be a close race between the two. Edmonton is obviously still in the race as well, but have a more experienced roster which has good, but sporadic chemistry. They will most likely do a better job of collecting points down the stretch. The Oilers have gone 4-5-1 in their last 10, have a -65 goal differential, and have only lost once since their last W. To conclude, I think Arizona has the most depleted roster, has been playing the worst of late; play of which only will get worse because of recent trades. On top of it all, Arizona has a very tough stretch of games coming up. Which include Anaheim on Tuesday. Then they move on to play the Nucks, Habs, Preds, and Hawks. Good luck to Sabres fans and Oil Town. Although I gotta gut feeling that Arizona is gonna speed past you both to the finish line down Tank Alley. Webster6
Paragraphs are your friend. I forgot to press tab between two paragraphs, big whoop. I'd like to see you even try to write a paragraph with any kind of substance. Although i'm sure you'll stick to obvious troll is obvious one-liners. hsedin33
Teams should have to win a certain percentage of games in the last few months to qualify for getting a top 5 pick. Just shameful what these teams are doing. Toronto even admitting what their plans are, arizona going 1-9, it's just shameful. No pride, not to mention flipping the bird to their sponsers and many fans who paid for seasons tickets. Season ticket holders should get their money back, I don't care how in the red these teams are. Pitiful.
elvis15
Wait, is this news? Even if Edmonton and Buffalo have been the front runners, Arizona has been well in on the talks about who might get him (along with other illustrious names like even the Leafs). Webster6
Wait, is this news? Even if Edmonton and Buffalo have been the front runners, Arizona has been well in on the talks about who might get him (along with other illustrious names like even the Leafs). It's not necessarily news, Arizona has been god awful most of the year, but there isn't too much speculation about them finishing dead last, and with recent trades taking place, I made an argument for it. Arizona just unloaded Zbynek Michalek today as well. They're basically sprinting to the bottom of the league. I'd bet money that they'll finish in 30th place. I haven't seen anyone else speculating that. As for Toronto.. As bad as they've been at times, and even though they've unloaded a lot of players as well lately. The Leafs still have 55 points and would have to lose virtually every game until season's end to finish dead last. Toronto's best chance at the McDavid sweepstakes will likely be through the lottery. My guess is Toronto finishes 4th last, maybe 3rd last at the worst, but they are the best team of bottom 4 teams, and have a pretty good lead on the bottom 3. elvis15
A number of teams have been sprinting to the bottom of the league with trades - or even the roster they've had all year.
Nuxfanabroad
Getting tired of all this speculation/debate on the best system. Choose some extreme, sheer rock face climb, & have every team send one of their prospects to race to the top(no ropes?). Makes for intense, dramatic viewing... Plus wtf is the point of posting on a sports forum if you're not interested in speculation and debate on the league's current events.
UnkNuk
Alan Muir of Sports Illustrated talks about Buffalo and Arizona's race to the bottom. "Little wonder then that the two clubs that are most likely to procure [McDavid's] services, Buffalo and Arizona, spent the past few days stripping themselves down to their foundations in order to improve their chances at drafting number one. Or at least finish 30th to protect themselves from a capricious lottery and guarantee a shot at Jack Eichel, another undeniably exceptional young talent." http://www.si.com/nhl-draft-tanking-connor-mcdavid-jack-eichel-tanking-battle-trade-deadline?xid=nl_siextra

UnkNuk
I don't even know who on buffalo is remotely decent. They have it locked up Don't underestimate Arizona - they're only four points back/ahead of Buffalo. As the Sports Illustrated article above mentioned, the two Buffalo/Arizona games coming up should be interesting. Wonder if either team will start a goalie? "Trying to lose? No, we're not trying to lose! We're just trying out a bold new offensive scheme!"
Russ
If I were McDavid I would pray to end up in Arizona. Look how warm it is there compared to the other dumps that are in that position.

LuonGO Canucks Go
In Europe the demote the bottom teams, we reward them. Leagues in North America are run on socialist model.
McBackup
Am i the only one who'd rather see mcdavid on 29 other teams before Toronto? Obviously not. At this point I'm hoping for a wildcard team to win the lottery. The oilers don't deserve to ruin another top prospect. Buffalo has been tanking in the most disgusting way possible and I really hope they don't get him. Toronto is self-explanatory And Arizona just reeks of something being afoot. So I'm hoping a team with an outside chance like Philly gets him
Mr.53
They need to change the draft system. Teams should be fighting for a top pick, not trying to lose for one. I think they should flip the lottery to a degree. The bubble teams that barely don't make it should be the ones that get a slightly higher chance at winning the lottery. That way, people are fighting for a playoff spot, and if they miss, they get rewarded for fighting hard until the end instead of tanking. I think they should flip it, and the lotto should be for the top 3 picks. The top 16 teams make the playoffs. The bottom 14 are ranked the way they are now. However, when it comes to the percent chance, you flip it. That way teams won't really have a reason to purposely tank. Teams that suck like the Edmontons and the Buffalos of the world, don't get to tank and get a top 3 pick, (most likely) but they still get a 4th or a 5th. That should be good enough to reinsert some talent into your lineup.
