Scorvat
Let me start this off by saying i am a huge Matthias fan. As i am sure every canuck fan is. Now with the way teams are overpaying for players this year, Matthias can land us a BIG return. I think we could easily get a 2015 1st. Team we could get a great return from is the Bruins. Especially after the Panthers picked up Jagr. We could probably package him with kassian and get an even bigger return. To Bruins: Kassian Matthias To Canucks: 2015 1st 2015 3rd Connoly 2016 1st (if Matthias resigns) Who knows. Maybe Matthias loves playing here so much he will sign as a UFA in the sumner. I know a lot of people would rather him stay here, as do i. But his play this year is going to earn him a BIG pay day. I would rather trade him and get picks for this draft and then try and sign him in the summer. If he dont sign, well than we didnt lose him for nothing. Just heard about Connoly trade. Maybe Bruins did that because the canucks didnt want Bartkowski because we got Clendenning. Maybe connoly will be a canuck tomorrow.

pianoman13
You know what, if the return is good enough, I could see him going. It just depends on whether you think this is how he will be all the time, or if he is over-achieving right now. Having said that, I don't think the return will be good enough, so I don't think he will go anywhere and I am happy he won't. BUT if we were out of a playoff spot, I would be saying to trade him for as much as we could get.

He could resign next year, and with how good he is playing he could deffiently fetch that.
CanucksAtHome
It would be great if that 2015 1st round pick turned into a player like Shawn Matthias, we could really use one of those. Oh wait...
Scorvat
It would be great if that 2015 1st round pick turned into a player like Shawn Matthias, we could really use one of those. Oh wait... We could draft a great D prospect with it!. AND THE PART THAT YOU MISSED. WE COULD SIGN HIM IN THE SUMMER. We will more than likely still make playoffs. With or without matthias will most likely not win the cup. We could. But so could florida. If Matthias is going to resign here than he will anyway as a FA. Basically a free pick. And draft picks are more valuable now to us than ever. With this being a very deep draft and us having the most hyped GM for his scouting abillities. Even if he doesnt resign, we could replace him in the offseason. Vancouver is a more likable destination for free agents now than it has been with the positive atmosphere linden brang to the team IMO

Hunter_74
To Bruins: Kassian Matthias To Canucks: 2015 1st 2015 3rd Connoly 2016 1st (if Matthias resigns) Essentially two 1sts, two 2nds and a 3rd for Kassian and Matthias? Youve GOT to be kidding me.

sinphase
They may have traded for him for the purpose of trading him to get another player I would have preferred their second round picks straight up.
Sweathog
I guess it all depends on how the contract negotiations are going. I would prefer to keep him,but trading him now is a good option if he is asking for way too much money.
Mattrek
Hell no we shouldn't trade him. He, Kenins and Horvat create an energy that infects the whole team to up their game levels consistently. He got us going against St. Louis tonight, without Matthias we lose tonight period end of story. He's going to be a building block for this team and could easily become a future star. He's only 27 also, so still fairly young and a lot of good hockey years ahead of him. Everyone seems so obsessed with draft picks this year and yes it's the deepest draft in many years, but the draft is no guarantee, sometimes you hit sometimes you miss and to get a 3rd line centre scoring 20+ goals a season and 30+ points is a needle in a haystack situation. He brings an edge, speed, goal scoring and an energy that elevates his team mates. That's way more valuable then the possibility of a better player in 3-4 years time. The only trades I'm making for draft picks is those older 30+ players, not for young guys in their prime that we can build off of.
pistolpro327
lol trading matthias would be stupid unless he has made it clear he will not resign with the canucks. Would need an elite prospect coming back. (which we wont get) he is a perfect player to include in our rebuild.
