Mathew Barzal
People love to hate on him here but you can't help but love him sticking up for his teammates. Good on the guy.
Senpai
Good. Someone probably should've said something like this after the whole Luongo/Schneider debacle. Love it from Kessel.
jono2009
BAHAHA. Fat Phil being Fat Phil. Can't stand this doofus! Sure, good on him for sticking up for his teamate. He's still a Coach Killer.

Gstank29
Toronto Media really needs to layoff for the Leafs for a bit. Raptors are on a 5 game losing streak, why dont you go question Derozen about being a "uncoachable" and see how he responds
Senpai
he and phaneuf gotta stick together. they're both underwater and overpaid. Not a single person in the NHL knew that the cap would be going down next year. Hell, at the start of the year, teams were planning on an increase. Nobody could have predicted a REDUCTION in cap. In saying this, if the cap raised a few million, like it was supposed to, Kessel and Phaneuf would definitely not be considered overpaid. I love hating on Toronto and hate the Leafs with a passion, but you gotta give them some leeway...
Bo.Horvat53
Hmmm, I don't know if I agree 100% with what he said, but yes, I love the fact that he spoke up for him teammate and captain. Bottom line is, TO us a huge hockey market, every player there is scrutinized to the very finest of hairs, and Phaneuf is no exception. Fact is he makes millions, but doesn't have the same impact a true number one dman should. Is losing all Phanuef's fault? Ofcourse not. But guess what? He wears the C there and if there's anyone to blame, I'd say he's the closest thing. It's not right, but that's just the way professional sports go. Kessel should get used to it if he wants to continue on in Toronto, otherwise he can pack his bags for Florida or Arizona.
ShakyWalton
The media has got fat and sassy over the years..he is right...the media can say what ever they want and are personally responsible for running players out of town..I cant stand about 90% of them in this city...I think the players have a right to be pissed over some of the things that are said and printed. YEGCanuck
Listening to Kessel I think he is really speaking about himself as much as he may be defending Phaneuf. Toronto fans and media expect a great deal and fact is these 2 players have not delivered a consistent quality performance for the big bucks they are paid. Canucks fans/media didn't go after Henrik last year for sucking ass, it was mostly on Torts and Gillis. There were probably a few people blaming Hank, but definitely not to the extent that TO is with Phaneuf.. Just because he wears the C it doesn't mean everything should be blamed on him... Their coach is terrible too, of course they're going to suck for the rest of the year.. Come on.
inane
Never a good move to call out the media. Are they wrong/too tough? Maybe, but this never works. Plus when you're a crappy as the Leafs are/he's playing, it's just a scapegoat move.
bigbadcanucks
Had to be said. Too bad that the coaches (Carlyle in particular) didn't have the cajones to stick up for Phaneuf earlier in the season. The Toronto hockey media is the scourge of the hockey universe...so much so that when they can't attack their own, they're stirring up nonsense about every other team (e.g., "Stamkos is going to sign with the Leafs as soon as he's a UFA"). I think he's earned a bit more respect than that The whole not saluting the fans after they finally won a game is not something a captain does, the whole team has looked uninspired and lacked heart, thats where a guy like Henrik seperates himself. He gets the team to rally, all the injuries that have happened he is leading by example and has upped his game to help win us games. so yes its sometimes the captain's fault (Thornton sjs) and sometimes its a coach running players into the ground by playing them 21+ mins a game and ruining an ironman streak

Too bad. yeah it would have been better if he had a few examples to drop instead of just a general statement repeated over. he looks kinda pissed he wasnt traded out there.
