Brett Connolly out for the year (Broken Hand)

Recommended Posts

He is a RFA and you call him a rental. Please explain.

This. They'll just re-sign him and he wasn't going to be the difference maker for them anyway.

I think you're being a bit too dramatic.

There's absolutely no chance that Boston does not qualify Connolly.

They didn't acquire him for a rental run - they spent two 2nds on a young player that they envision as a fixture in their future.

To qualify a player requires a 10% increase - on his 851K - so you're talking about 85 thousand dollars of cap space like it somehow inhibits them.

Yup, it'd be like us not qualifying Baertschi. Pretty sure they plan on keeping him.

If they choose to let him walk then it obviously is a terrible trade, but they're far from that and will figure out their cap for next year.

Lot of injuries this season around this time of year, guess the grind of the season is finally taking its toll.

This is just straight up bad luck/karma though. Connolly had been amazing in Tampa this season, 12 goals, and may have really taken off in Boston or come back down to Earth but now we may never know, he may never even play a game in a Bruins jersey.

Second round picks may not seem like much but this and the next draft are two of the deepest we've seen in a long time, where those 2nd round picks are more valuable than ever before (and with Boston sliding, will probably be as high as 50th overall, maybe even 40th overall next season).
