1994 Cup FInal CKNW 980 Robson & Larscheid Audio

Early '90s I recall Tommy getting wound up(over a nice Nux goal) & impulsively blurting out, "& he went around the guy lika' Drug store Indian!" ..Couldn't believe what I'd just heard, & muttered to my gf, "Tommy's gonna get roasted for that."

Sure enough, to begin the next telecast.."Hi, this is Tom Larscheid. Just wanted to start off by apologizing to members of the native community, etc.."

Anyone remember that one? Trivial I guess, but pretty funny at the time.

brings back sad memories actually.

Dave Babych was saying that the 1994 still haunts to this day. The only cure was to see them win the cup in 2011. Even though he didn't win it, at least Vancouver Canucks won it.

Oh boy, do the Vancouver Canucks have to win it for a handful of people.

(Patt Quinn, Rypien, Bourdon) We will bring the cup to their graves.

Looking at the 94 team, looking at the 2011, team, i'm going to be honest, not pessimistic or anything, just being a little more realestic, team is extremely far off from any of those 2 teams in many ways.

2011 team was a high end skilled team, with fire power from the back end.

1994 team wore out the other team with their speed size and determination. We had the Russian Rocket and Trevor LInden.

oh man. those tapes makes me so sad. I'm not sure if I will ever live to see them win the cup, I hope they can just win 1, I don't care how they do it, shortened season or not, man.... sigh....

JIm Benning has a lot of work to do.

Can't listen,

Won't listen

That was a once in a life time thing, and I'd prefer to leave it that way.

I wonder if people to young to have been there can pick up on the spirit of that time via these broadcasts?

To this day, when I feel down, I think of linden In game 7, trying to drag the team across the finish line with broken ribs, always inspires me to get my rear in gear.

Linden was something you just can't teach in hockey. He was a one of a kind guy who would never give up, playing with heart and grit every shift. Horvat honestly reminds me of him. The kid has no quit, and gives it his all. That's something that only comes around once in a lifetime if you're lucky. A guy who plays his heart out night in and night out just for the logo on his jersey.

Gotta give credit to the other wounded Soldiers. Cliff Ronning, (our play making wizard) played with a broken hand, Geoff courtnall, the list goes on. I was picking up some 94 clips here and there on youtube, and watching it makes me feel very discouraged with how far away this current team is from that 94 team. It's really not close, seriously it's not. 94 team attacked the oppososition in waves. Pavel bure played the role of the untouchable assasin. He can't be stopped. Linden played the role of the commander who will lead his troops to battle. Kirk Mclean gave his team the confidence to win. Man if we hung on to Doug LIster for one more year it might have gave us enough defensive depth, oh well, no looking back.

just a win a damn cup.

Love these old memories, & yeah, it was a magic run. But with the McLean save(& Lu on Sharp) these runs could have never existed(to begin with), so why all the moaning & negative spin?

Most of you guys(since I'm no longer there) are in the most beautiful town in the world, with the GREATEST team! It'll be their turn, eventually-gotta' believe!

With the class players they've so often had, I'd rather lose a series with my Canucks than win, with some of the riff-raff(& lousy officiating) other nameless places have exploited.

When our boys deliver, it'll be with speed, intensity, skill, integrity & honour.

Drug store's used to have carved wooden indian statue's in the front, but either way it's a terrible reference hahaha.

That's pretty funny and offensive, but he's about the most non-offensive guy you can get.

an over achieving team, with the heart of warriors vs. an extremely loaded underwhelming team that failed to show up and got manhandled/ got their faces used as punching bags...

1994 >>> 2011

Linden > H. Sedin

Bure > Sedin's entire family tree

Mclean > Lu

I have nothing but fond memories of the 1994 team... I remember nothing but anger and disappointment from the 2011 team..

the presidents trophy winning 2011 team was 1 OT goal away from a humiliating first round collapse, I think we would have been far better off long term if that happened, then the slow death we saw..

I used to think that way but when you weigh the eras and compare it makes no sense.

Had the Canucks not had Henrik, Kesler, Malhotra and our entire d core injured we would have easily won the cup.

Also new York's defensive play was no where near Boston's.

People act like the 2011 team choked when in fact they had serious injuries not just to a few key players but almost all of them.

There is one thing I agree on though.

Mclean >>>>>>Lu

Sorry folks but it was not even close. Lu let in the absolute worst goals in Boston.

I miss the days of Tommy sticking his foot in his mouth. My all-time favorite is, "I just got back from the Canucks' locker room and Pavel Bure's groin has never felt better!"

I just recently watched through this youtube series on the 94' Stanley Cup run and it got my fired up for this years playoffs. If any of you are interested in going through and watching I would highly recommend it as it is a cornerstone of this teams legacy, especially for those of you that were born after or were too young to watch and appreciate it at the time (I was only 3 years old). This video gave me chills.
