I've seen drafts having Chychrun still higher than Sergachev, personally I'd rather have Sergachev at this point compared to Chychrun due to this transition over to NA ice seemed quite flawless.

Why is Chychrun still rated higher than Sergachev?

Because a collective group of professional hockey talent evaluators watched both extensively and feel chychrun is the better player haha

In all seriousness though I thought I heard Button or Mackenzie can't remember who, say chychrun is the best skater in the draft. That's gotta count for something.

They also polled I think ten scouts and 7 had chychrun as the best Dman but the other 3 had Jolevi #1. So I'd take Chychrun myself. I'd be tempted to take him ahead of Tkachuk even.

Thought this was a funny tidbit, pulled from a user by the name of FinPanda on hfboards:

So Edmonton Oilers.. Craig MacTavish and scout James McGregor came to Finland to watch Laine in Blues-Tappara game and like we all know he is with the mens natonal team. They didn't know that he won't play. They will go next to watch U18 tournament in Rauma and Friday to Vaasa watch Puljujärvi.

lol you think you'd take the time to check if he's actually playing before you hop on a transatlantic flight...

This post was from Feb 10th.

Coilers is as Coilers does.

Wasn't Max Jones very highly rated just a couple years ago?

Before the season started he was mocked in the top 10. He's been buried under all the London talent and could be a very nice pick up for somebody around 15. If he was racking up points on Londons top line he'd probably be mocked around 12ish.

As of today the Canucks would be picking 7th. My thoughts are that the Canucks will end up picking either 6th or 7th by the end of the season.

[ ] = considered a little bit of a reach

bold = personal favorites

italics = may fall, and would therefore be the automatic pickup at 6-7.

1. Auston Matthews

2. Jesse Puljujarvi

3. Patrik Laine

4. Matthew Tkachuk

5. Jakob Chychrun

6 - 7: Options
- Olli Juolevi
- Alexander Nylander

- Julien Gauthier

- Michael McLeod

- Pierre-Luc Dubois

- [Jake Bean]

- [Mikhail Sergachev]

- [Dante Fabbro]

Thoughts?
I personally love the idea of picking Juolevi because he has stud potential. He stands out as a defenceman with bonafide talent that can do it all.

I personally love the idea of the Canucks picking Gauthier because he's an excellent skater, has a willingness to battle hard, has a big body, and loves to rip lasers. Canucks need some size to their forwards, and he uses his well. Power forward potential with a finisher's touch. Would also push Virtanen or Boeser down to the third line into a support role, which the NHL has seen work out for players like Couture in the past. Depth on the wing is something all teams need to win with. Picking Gauthier would likely mean having to acquire another mid-to-late round first round pick to walk away with an up and coming defenceman, or picking one up early in the second.

Still, guys like Luke Green, Sean Day, and Markus Niemalainen should be available to pick in the early second.

this draft, other than the first overall, may depend on which teams pick where.  If the Leafs pick 2nd, don't you think they take Tkachuk?  Plus, I prefer Sergachev, because he's a mean SOB.  Later in the first there is Keifer Bellows too.

Meh beside the first 4 I dont care where we draft between 6-12. But Bean is intriguing

Pretty much. If we're in that window, we're getting a WD approved 'real good' player. We either get a good player there or we fluke and win the lotto and get a great one in the top 3. Boys picked a good year to suck ::D

I'm not as high on Bean, like most of you guys are. He kind of reminds me of Mike Green. While we do need a type of player like Green, there's no guarantees that his offensive skill can transition into the NHL, and he's sort of a loss puppy, in his own end. He's that type of defensemen, where if he's in his own end. You better hope he has the puck or else you'd be pulling your hair out, watching him trying to defend.

Wouldn't be shocked if he dropped into the 20s.

If there's one thing I've learned from previous drafts it's that defenceman drop

my prediction if we draft 7th chychrun will still be available

now who would you take between chychrun and sergychev?

Chychrun, no doubt about it. Sergychev remains my favorite choice if Chychrun is taken.
