No need to worry about that "if" dilemma

I don't understand the panic from some posters about us making the playoffs. We'd have to leapfrog like 3-4 teams and we have the third fewest ROW's in the league, and now we're without our best D man and our 2C. We're an injury to Tanev, Daniel, Henrik, or Bo from absolutely flatlining the rest of the season IMO. The way I see it we're just about guaranteed a top 10 pick, have a pretty good shot at a top 5 pick, and with the new lottery format and our downward trend we might even have a glimmer of hope for a top 3 pick.

Yeah I wasn't saying you are, it's the usual suspects on CDC who are. It just doesn't make sense to me. Nobody save maybe ownership is deluded enough to think we can really make playoffs barring a run similar to what Ottawa did last year.

I know its pathetic lol. I can just see it now, these people and management talking like "well we play san jose 5 times, we could beat them all 5 and we'll prolly be in!"

well I guess it's possible but it's just so unlikely. At this point I just wanna see the Twins, Hansen, Bo, Baer, Virt, McCann, and Hutton continue to have great years but the team lose.

Currently canucks sit with the 7th overall pick, I think we finish in the 5-9 spot.

Oilers are currently on pace for 67 points.  If we really want to  slip below them canucks will need go 4-19.  That isn’t happening.

Leafs are currently on pace 70. If canucks want to slip below them we’d have to finish off with 6-17,  still not realistic.

Then we have 3 teams (WPG,BUF, CBJ) on pace for a 75 point finish.  Canucks would need to finish with a 8-15, Possible but it's hard to see it happening, we'd have to finish out with an ever worse record than what we did in our last 10.

At this point in the stage it’s almost harder to leap frog downward than it is upwards.  All these teams are sellers and their rosters are about to get worse.  Canucks just lost 4 in a row and haven’t dropped a spot, In fact Oilers have co. have gained distance on us and Coyotes and tightening that gap for 8th spot.  My prediction is we finish with 81 points (10-10-3) and finish with the 8th overall pick and a 6% chance of winning the lottery.

That's pretty much how I see it. Like I said, if any of the remaining key guys go out for any extended period of time I could very well see us plummeting that hard too. Other than Colorado, how many times have we scored 3 or more goals in a game over the last 10-15 or so games? It's not likely, but the potential to totally bottom out is there. I see us picking anywhere from 6-10 though.

No biggie, just lose all three games to them, then pretty much keep pace.  They'll be getting RNH and Klefbom back, but we won't have Sutter or Edler.  Depends also what happens at the TDL and how the rosters look afterwards.  Never know when a young team could come together and start playing well to go on a run.

The Oilers are in complete disarray. They are way more likely to lose all 3 of those games than the Canucks. That is one messed up locker room right now. McLellan just went out into the media and ripped the team to shreds saying that they need ship some guys out citing apathy.

The Oilers are a lost cause, they have last place all but locked up. It seems every year analysts claim they will break out of the basement. It's all we heard last summer. They added defense (Sekera, Reinhart), goaltending (Talbot), a generational talent in McDavid and a young #1 C in Draisatl and they still suck lol.

I'm starting to think that Tyson Jost should be someone this team should draft. He is 2-3 years away but his offensive potential have 1C written all over him. He is DEADLY in the offensive zone

Doesn't he play at a teir below the CHL guys?

that is irrelvant, he has produced at every international event he's played in and is dominating what is mostly a 19-20 year old league

It's still a lesser league though.  There are good players from that league in the NHL, but not nearly as many as from the CHL, or even the USHL.

Its a much smaler league so it's hard to compare, but a major of Canadas Div 1 players that sign with NHL teams or that have benn drafted have played in that league before going to college

It's a lesser league, where the level of player greatly drops off after the first few guys on a team.

And that is where you are wrong. The level of player doesn't greatly drop off thoughout a team lineup, but there are a few teams that are ridiculously stacked.

I disagree.  Yes, some teams have more of these top guys, but most teams have a couple, and then the talent drops off.  These top players look to stand out because they often get shifts against much weaker players than they would see in the CHL.  But there are some very good players coming out of the BCHL.  I would not be spending a first on one though.
