2016 NHL Entry Draft [June 24-25th || Buffalo, New York]

Recommended Posts

Not sure if it's come up in all these 200 pages, but I posted this in the Cederholm Talk thread:

Could be someone to look at if he falls to the 4th or we gain another pick. Who knows, maybe, Benning and Co. are already aware of him and could be interested with our 3rd round pick.

there is a reason the majority of churches in North America are empty and on life support in near danger of losing there tax exempt status ,[always in debate]

Jb may have noticed if it were a oversight he should watch Draft day again. oversights for people at the highest level are unacceptable an a price is to be paid for the choices an decissions made. The should give every one comfort knowing the right track has been chosen an success will follow lead the way JB have at it an good luck.

mckenzie sounded very high on sergachev this am on 1040, plus he is listed as a RD - big, nasty, apparently he has "elite skating"

He is a top end talent.  If he wasn't first year NA Junior player he'd probably be higher up on the list.  He is a left shot but played most of the year on his off side.  He's got everything we need in a #1 D.  Shot, offensive instincts, size (and uses it), skating, and work ethic.  His biggest weakness is positioning as he often gets caught running around, similarly to Doughty early in his career. In junior Sergachev elite skating allows him to quickly get back but the NHL is a faster pace.  He is new to the NA game and has gotten better as the year went on, but If he can hone in and work on that part of his game as well as continue to develop his other areas, he's going to be scary good.

I really believe he will continue to improve and adjust. Apparently he has done an amazing job adapting to the new ice, new team, new country and new language. I think her will only continue to improve and become a good, if not great player in this league. If he booms, I think he's a Victor Hedman clone.

I'd say more Pietrangelo/Doughty hybrid,  Size, speed, and slick hands, he's such a strong skater. Not that I'd not take a Hedman Clone

On another note, Here is a few scouting reports on the Russian D man.

The two-player limit the CHL imposes on its clubs in regards to European-born players may seem restrictive, possibly xenophobic. What you can’t argue, however, is how it enables teams to be far more deliberate and selective when adding a player from across the pond. Russian-born defenseman Mikhail Sergachev is one of those fortunate ones, but take our word for it when we say he’s not your classic European-trained blueliner. He plays an aggressive and punishing style, mixed in with offensive flair and a strong enough sense to either join the rush or create one himself.

Sergachev has anchored Windsor’s top pairing since the season began, logging minutes on both the top power play and penalty killing units. He possesses above-average speed, and owns a powerful stride which makes him difficult to stop when in full flight. Additionally, Sergachev is a mobile playmaker from the back end, capable of connecting on and receiving difficult passes, whether up the ice or diagonally through a maze of sticks. Most impressive is his hard shot, which he can fire with substantial velocity from the point’s deepest areas. The pace and complexity of the next level shouldn’t intimidate him, but his slot coverage is one area where he must improve to complete his development.

A big minute-munching blue liner who has that nice combination of size and wheels that make NHL scouts take notice. He is a feisty, mobile defenseman that can beat you with his quick first step or a solid pass. Shows nice composure when pressed in his own zone and does not panic but instead skates with the puck or will just rim it out safely. Plays it physical stepping up for the big hit and likes to physically eliminate opponents from danger areas in the defensive zone. Has a strong point shot and the ability to run a power play. High NHL upside with this kid. – Future Considerations

I hope this team picks at least in between 4-6.  After this type of season we need a really good blue chip prospect to give us some solace.  I'd love for this team to acquire a Tkachuck, Chychrun, Dubois, Sergachev.  I would still be some what happy with Julevoi, Nylander, Bean but not as much, and of course it would be incredible to get a top 3.

For me, I am hoping for Sergachev or McLeod. Sergachev fits our needs and looks like a beast. McLeod may become the best player in this draft. To me he is the Dylan Larkin of this year.

Now that is my uneducated choice but I am sticking to it.

If we end up drafting a defenseman, I bet it's Juolevi. When asked about the defensemen available in the top 10 at the town hall thing, Benning mentioned him first, then Sergachev, then Chychrun. Didn't seem all that complimentary of Jakob. Then talked about how much he liked Bean's game, comparing him to Erik Karlsson. Usually when you talk about players you like. In this case, it was the defenseman category, he mentioned Juolevi first. That is ALWAYS what happens when you like a player more than others.

Since canucks won’t be catching ARZ or BUF, the lowest this team can drop after the lottery is 9th.  That means we will be picking one of:

Matthews

Laine

Puljuarvi

Tkachuk

Chychrun

Dubois

Juolevi

Nylander

Sergachev

I don’t see how we can see any negative in that.  It’s a major win for our franchise.

I'm just dissapomted likely missing out on an elite NHL ready prospect in the top 3. Would give something to look forward to next year if Canucks picked top 3 or even 4-5.

Adding a big forward outside of the top-3 like Dubois or Tkachuk would set us up nicely up front in the future. The preference would be for Dubois, but if we are picking 6-8 Tkachuk could be a good option.  Adding some size and skill to our left side/centre spots could set us up very well:

Baertschi - Horvat - Virtanen

Tkachuk/McCann - McCann/Dubois - Boeser

If we don't win a loto pick but Tkachuk is somehow available when we pick I would take him. More likely scenario is we pick at number 6 and he is already taken. Then that case I go for Sergachev. I think this is our likely pick and this is the guy I want outside of those top 4 forwards.
