What are our chances of getting Laine at #3? If our chances are not good I would actually trade up with Edmonton to get him.

Laines playoff performance is putting some distance between the two though. I really think he will be the #2 selection but both are phenomenal

Of course Arizona says they wont trade OEL.  Why would you tell anyone that youd trade your best player and future perennial Norris candidate?

If a deal with OEL is made its gets done because ownership makes it happen.  That being said, I also think they easily have enough pieces to getter done without OEL, and theyll be making some sort of massive offer to attempt it, whichll be far easier if they land the #2 or #3 pick.

Mark Crawford says Matthews is a blend of Kopitar and Sakic....  He should know, he coached all 3.  Strome may end up a solid center, but hes not near this kind talent.

Also consider this would be an inter-divisional deal, which would/should drive up the cost even more.

Say the Coyotes have the 7th overall...   Id think at minimum, the cost would be Strome, Domi, (Juolevi/Dubois/Sergachev) , NYR pick (McAvoy/Fabbro/Stanley)...  BUT I dont know if they pay the price.  Depends on how badly ownership wants this kid, and by all reports, that entire state has their fingers crossed, and it would be a dream come true for Matthews.  If that deal came across, you could immediately restock the cupboards, but youd still carefully need to weigh the cost of giving a divisional rival that kind of talent.

If however they get a #2, #3 pick...   Strome + Laine/Puljujarvi?  Doesnt make sense from Arizonas side...  But you might be able to take advantage of how bad their business wants/needs Matthews.

if we get 1OA we keep it for sure, we sign 1-2 wingers and 1 d man in the offseason and we are a playoff team that could probably win a round. I say we go after Lucic and Ladd, make this team heavy for once, those two along with a developing virtanen and hornet would make our future top 6 pretty heavy.

Sedin Sedin Hansen

Lucic Horvat Ladd

Beartschi Matthews Sutter

Etem Granlund Dorsette

Gaunce

McCann, Virtanen in the A

burrows, higgins, prust, vrbata - gone.

Looks like a playoff team before you throw in our defense and 6 million dollar goalie.

We are now assured of 4th with HUGE percentage of simply staying 3rd (provided we done gain a point tomorrow).

This should rude ourselves of any talk that doesn't include the top 5.

Draft lottery. If we finish 4th, we could drop as far as 7th.

Any one else excited for the u18 championship? Last time to see chychrun and bean play before the draft. Players to watch for Canada include chychrun, bean, McLeod, Jost, and fabbro. I expect chychrun to have a great tournament and then we select him if we don't win lottery and he is still there.

We're building a new core, not continuing to prop up the old one. I want very little to do with Lucic or Ladd and the anchors of contracts that would be required to sign them.

Not very good, he is hands down the 2nd best player in this draft and could give Matthews a run for his money

Giving up a possible top 3 pick and an impact player for the next 10 years so our guys can "feel good about themselves"!?

sorry but that's some crazy stuff right there...

Hell the way this team has played they don't deserve to go out feeling good. They should go out feeling like crap because that's what they were and how they played all season.

I didn't say anything about that. You obviously didn't read what I said before what you quoted me. Basically what I was trying to get across is if Columbus gets the win tonight, then the team will have absolutely no reservations towards whooping Edmonton tonight. I hate this cheering for my team to suck business. This is not how it should ever go!!!

Our 6 million dollar goalie isn't half bad, especially when you consider that he and Markstrom will be sharing the crease more evenly next season.

And if our defense can stay reasonably healthy next season... we could definitely have a shot at playoffs.

If we can draft Matthews/Laine/Puljujiarvi this year, and go into next year with a competitive line up like that with the kids developing in the NHL/AHL it would make this whole disaster of a season worth it

Why not? Matthews is a local kid Coyote fan and would save that franchise. Think of the marketing opportunities. I think a #1 C for a #1 D is a fair trade off is it not?

You have to think Arizona would be pretty desperate to have a marketable player to sell tickets and help stop all the money being lost.

I like your creativity, but if we have a chance to draft Matthews we take him everyday, all day and twice on Sunday.  I'd be just as happy with Laine, Puljujiarvi, and to a lesser degree Tkachuck.  This team needs everything, but the need to score goals is very important so another forward is what this team needs the most.  Any future combo of:

Baerschi Matthews Boeser

or

Laine Horvat Boeser

or

Puljujiarvi Horvat Boeser

or

Tkachuck Horvat Boeser

Should score some goals and be fun to watch

I know you've stated it right here clearly, but its so obvious the success of any of these lines are going to be due largely to Boeser. IMO. With the exclusion of that hypothetical Laine line Boeser is probably potting most of the goals on these lines.

Im still so ecstatic to have Brock, even after the honey moon.

Is anyone else watching these playoff games with Laine and Puljujarvi going head to head? I hate to sound like a broken record , but damn Laine is good. He is 1B in my eyes. And B only because of his position. The goal that he scored shortside over the goalies shoulder today was beautiful. There isn't a goalie in the world that could have saved that shot. Tappara now leads the series 3-2... I think

Finishing this low will definitely help for each rd of picks

2nd rd we get a 1st rounder that slides

3rd rd we get a 2nd rounder that slides

and so on

this draft will rely on bennings skills more then ever

Excellent point. The draft spot in the 2nd and lower has not been pointed out near enough times. Quality draft this year as well. Benning will have a field day.

Did you see that the Russian entire U18 team has been banned for failing drug tests and are now sending their U17 team instead. Wow!

Canucks likely won't trade Matthews if they get him. He is a 1C to go along with Demko. It only leaves a 1D prospect to acquire.

Ya the first two rounds look pretty good, I have heard people question the depth of this draft in the later rounds though, not sure if true.
