I like this graphic better. 22.9 to move up, 11.3 to stay the same, and the greatest likelihood is moving back - 65.8.

I hate that the new rules occur on the year we have our worst season to date.

Yeah we could have had Puljujiarvi locked up for sure

On the whole I agree with you. I ran out of pluses but I will give you one asap. I do think Dubois would be a better fit on the Canucks. A center who is big, fast, hard working, skilled, physical, and tenacious. What's not to like?

I do feel though, that Tkachuk is more than a complimentary player. He has leadership qualities and seems to be one of the drivers of his line if not the guy that makes that line go. I love his grit. This is why I would take him at fourth.

I too think Benning picks a Dman outside of the top 3. I just can't reconcile this with the fact that I really like Sergachev.

Absolutely. If Tkachuk is solely a complimentary player, he's the best complimentary player you're gonna get. I think he's a guy you just can't go wrong with, he will be a top6 forward which is one of the reason why i would be ok with him. But ofc it's possible to make a case for both Dubois and Nylander as well. Dubois is extremely versatile, he can play both center and wing and he works hard. He's big and skilled and a really good skater, teams love those type of guys. Seems like a very humble guy as well who's determined to get better, overall just a typical Benning type of guy. Also a leftie just like Tkachuk which might make him a little bit more attractive, considering we do have both Boeser and Virtanen, 2 righthanded wingers that Benning thinks highly of.

I also really like Sergachev. I kinda always thought that a team that is going to be picking in the, say 9-11 range at least, could be very fortunate to be picking in that range. Because in that range, rolling the dice on Sergachev could definitely be worth it as i personally don't think there's a whole lot of upside with the other players available there. Not that guys like McLeod and Gauthier for instance are bad prospects, i don't think it's impossible that they become top6 players, and they might be safer picks than Sergachev. I just think Sergachevs potential vastly outweights them being "safer picks". Also not a huge fan of either McLeod and Gauthier tbh. I like Jost more than both of them.

Nail on head.  Well done.  Great post.  I really hope JB can READ.

So far, Canucks have 7 draft picks in 2016: one in each of rounds 1-4, one in round 6 and two in round 7. They might get 2nd round pick from Columbus for Torts, Columbus has to decide by June 1 if this is 2016, 2017 or 2018.

Thanks!

i looked at a similar site and couldn't  figure out why we still had our 3rd which we had given up for Pedan.

Seems that pick travelled through about five different teams before coming back to us.

if you truly love something let it go...

The Canucks are primarily lacking in skilled left-wingers and top end defensive talent.
Considering a guy who could play with Boeser down the road in Caggiula is available, I think it'd be a wise choice to pursue him!

  • Canucks do not currently possess a bonafide #1 Center for the future. Auston Matthews is the obvious fix for that.
  • Defensive options:
Callan Foote for the 2017 draft is looking real good, and Chychrun this year could solve some of that top end defensive talent problem. Olli Juolevi and Sergachyov are a notch below Chychrun, but barely. They are extremely talented and could check a lot of the empty boxes for the Canucks.
  • Tkachuk and Dubois are the options left for left wing talent.
  • Canucks have something close to a bonafide top line right winger in Brock Boeser, but consistency throughout the years is something he has not had the privalege of proving yet. Drafting Puljujarvi or Laine could solve a lot of scoring problems for the Canucks sooner rather than later.

The Canucks are in a really good spot right now, draft-wise, for 2016. Wherever they end up picking in the 1-6 range, they will have a chance to procure an asset that fills current and future needs, when considering the construction of a consistently competitive NHL team.

Canucks hold...

  • 1x 1st Rd Pick

  • 1x 4th Rd Pick

  • 1x 6th Rd Pick
    Best Available @153: Lauta/Huber/Rymsha/Ryczek/Kirwan/Zhuldekov/McPhee/Miranda/C.Long

Just my thoughts! These were guys that stood out for me, and I think would feasibly be available for the Vancouver Canucks. Some would be flyers, guys to take a chance on, and others will take a more bland development path. Depending on what other teams are expecting to see from these kids, some might go higher. A lot of them are poised for breakout seasons soon.
These are kids who I think would bring some light to this market and give fans something to hope for in the future.

Best of luck in the lottery, and I hope the Canucks' draft unfolds well. Probably won't look like the one I laid out above, but we'll see.

:)

Awesome post.  Alf says thank you.

Alf has one question for you who are so well informed about these players: where will that D man from the Q get picked - Girard?  :). Alf likes this player's offence, and compete.  Thanks.

I think he's late first round, I mean that's where I would pick him. His size might put some teams off, but he has looked electric this year. He reminds me a lot of Barrie, and I think he has top pairing potential.
He and Will Bitten are the small dynamos that I think have a legitimate shot at being excellent producers, imo one of the top D in this draft. I would put Girard right below the McAvoy/Fabbro

I hear Arizona has two first rounders: their own and the Rangers.  If we win 2 or 3 in the lotto, would it be a wise trade to move down ( switching top picks) and getting that late first rounder too?  Or are those Finns either too good to give up, or not good enough for Arizona to do that deal?  This is if Arizona has a pick 6-10.  Or is there a team with two firsts that would be a better partner for a Finn?

Thanks for allowing Alf to pick your brain. :). Alf assumes Matthews is an absolute keeper, but would appreciate your opinion on him too.

If we can pick up Girard or Klague with our 2nd rd pick I'd be ecstatic

Me too.  Alf loves the upside (offence) of both these players.  Girard is like a Duncan Keith clone for those who saw Keith in Jr. A.

Stecher's a pretty similar player to Clague.

Pile em up, the D cupboard is looking bare.

Gotta agree.  Why did JB trade away his second round picks, so many times?:(. Vince Dunn went round two last draft.
