It would be cool if we picked Jost him and Boeser would have chemistry. I wanna wait and see when the tourney is finished. He is doing better than Nylander though. At worst 6th, but I am thinking 4th or 3rd by the time the tourney is done. Problem is the people who run teams in the NHL want players who can play right now. Not 2 years from now. They also think that the BCHL isn't that good of a league, which is true, but then you see him play in this tourney and still utterly dominate. When the stage is even bigger! All these things hurt his prospective draft ranking, but this kid has way more skill than given credit for. It has to be recognized. I mean, 6 foot 200 lbs and can skate like he does, plays in all situations, Captain of this U-18 team AND the Vees. That and we can also control his development curve a bit better. Maybe he becomes really good buds with Brock Boeser and turns pro with him after this season? We know ND is obviously a great place to develop talent. Caggiula, Stecher, Boeser, and now Jost. I salivate at this kid's potential and what it could mean for this team.

Don't forget that Jordan Schreoder played lights out in the wjc. its nice to see but 5 games isn't a very good base to predict a 15 year NHL career on. He's having a good tourny but people need to temper there excitement a bit.

I salivate at this kid's potential and what it could mean for this team. I live in Penticton, I've watched Jost and Fabbro all year and more. Jost is good, but he's not necessarily top 10 good, there's serious knocks on his playing ability that need to be ironed out. No matter how shiny he looks in a single tournament against boys it doesn't take those away. He gets lost on the PK frequently, has a 1 dimensional PP strategy that won't work against pro level competition, he still gets bounced off the puck and has issues in corners. Jost is good, but not draft him at 6th good yet Fabbro though I'd seriously consider taking that flyer on him because (and believe this when I say it) without him Jost looks normal a lot of the time. They click VERY well, but the times the Vees didn't have those two working together for whatever reasons, Jost wasn't nearly as productive. If Benning is going off the board he should be doing it for Fabbro If he is looking to trade in to the 10-20 spot it should be for Fabbro. Jost/McCaan are honestly interchangeable for this org at the moment. 10 years from now Jost could very easily prove me wrong. he DOES have that skill set, but that will be an argument for a later date, after college after some AHL time and after his 3rd year in the NHL

Bure_Pavel
I don't see how you can be disappointed with one of Tkachuk, Dubois, or Chychrun. Its gonna be a good draft! Has anyone been watching chychrun at the U18's? I know he isn't rack up points, but is he playing a defensive role paired with Fabbro?
Mackcanuck
Corey PronmanVerified account@coreypronman Top 2016 draft eligible Patrik Laine has 99 shots on net attempted in the Liiga playoffs. Isn't that how Pulujarvi jumped to 3rd from 7th? Also Schroeder obviously isn't durable enough. He isn't 6', 200 lbs, and used in all situations. No question he's #1 center for the World Jrs for 2017. He is going to tear it up there.

For me at least pulujarvi has been in the top three all year, he has been pretty impressive since the age of like 16 playing. Laine has been more of a climber than him. I am a little worried about Jost - an unknown could be really good but didnt mccdavid kill it at the U18s a year prior to his draft? during his drfat year he was still in the OHL playoffs year no? I could be wrong. At 6 is really where Benning's scouting wisedom will be tested.

I am not saying Jost should necessarily be this pick or that pick, but I do think he should be in the conversation around picks 4-10 for sure. And that's my point. Alot of these scouts can be very wrong. Even at this area of the draft. Discounting players for one reason or another. I think this U18 performance can't be ignored. Especially if Canada wins and Jost is a huge part of it. Btw, I don't think the scouts are wrong about Pulujarvi.
elvis15
Yeah, I don't see any way a reasonable person would pick Jost with our first. I'd consider him with our second but he'll likely be gone already. You absolutely take single tournaments into account (Ivan Hlinka, U18's, WJHC, etc.) but if it means a significant deviation from the rest of your assessments on a player, it's an outlier rather than a true indicator of their talent.
