I've watched him enough this year.  As much as I watched Sergachev.  He's a dominate player....when he wants to be, which just doesn't happen on a consistent bases.  He's not overly physical, you would think with his frame he's be like an Lindros and over power everyone (considering his competition is still filled with 16-17 year olds that barely weight 165lbs). but instead of being a huge force all the time you start to see Taylor Pyatt creep in.

Every coach wants to be the guy that finally gets through to the underachieving kid loaded with potential. Kassian, Bernier, Pyatt, etc

Jeff Marek's recent mock draft,

has as us taking Sergachov

I don't think its impossible but that would be surprising...

Sone analysts haven't caught up with the fact the Canucks need for d prospects has lessened with the emergence of Hutton and the promise Tryamkin showed last season.

And that Gudbrandson is only 24, and Tanev is 25.

We need elite forwards more than D right now - correct?

I'm a believer in drafting bpa...

Regardless a lot of eastern media keep rehashing, "the canucks need d" and your point is correct (I believe).

JB said the same as you - BPA with the top pick.  That's Dubois or Tkatchuk according to most experts, right?

Define Elite. And are either Dubois or Tkachuk going to fit the term elite?

#1 D are harder to find than a top 6, LW.  UFA is always filled with top 6 wingers.  Take this year’s UFA crop for example,  Vbrata, Erkisson, Okposo, Perron, Brouwer, Boedker, Hudler, Ladd, Add in all the trades and it's really not that hard to find a 50-60 point player if you have cap space.

If they feel Dubois would be a number 1 C, I think they would take him without a doubt.  If they felt a D was going to be #1 I wouldn't be shocked if they took the D.

JB said he has a D in his top 5.  Sounded like it went Forward - Defense - Forward.  so if the forward they wanted is gone at 4.  I could see them taking a D.  Which forward they had as the best BPA and who that D is, is the real question.

In other words, JB could trade down, up, stay at five and pick one of a fairly long list of guys.  :). Only one week to go to find out!

Trade with MTL, their 9th and McCarron for our 5th. Draft Brown at 9, have two beasts in McCarron and Brown upfront.

They are very high on McCarron from what I've heard. While I'm still a fan of taking BPA it's an intriguing idea given the make up of the west.

My guess is that the forward is Dubois and the D Man is Juolevi.  I hope the forward they like is Dubois and the D man is Sergachyov.  I guess you are right... time will tell
