ya we would be wise to jump on that offer if it was on the table. I just dont think they would want to move him, be the 9th pick plus.

Montreal would want a future of Gally and Dubois as 1/2 C combo I would assume

JB or any other gm holding this years 5th pick wouldn't think twice if Alex Galchenyuk were offered up for it. However... it aint even a possibility so why even discuss it. Its like watering your mouth over food you cant dig your fork into

I agree, I see Montreal and Edmonton getting a deal done. Montreal will draft Dubois, and Edmonton will take whatever defensemen is available at 9th.

Toronto: Auston Matthews

Winnipeg: Patrik Laine

Columbus: Jesse Puljujärvi

Montreal (EDM): Pierre-Luc Dubois

Vancouver: Matthew Tkachuk

Calgary: Olli Juolevi

Arizona: Mikhail Sergachyov

Buffalo: Alexander Nylander

Edmonton (MON): Jacob Chychrun

So which players on the Habs would be going the other way.?..It would be a pretty big piece off of their roster for that #4..thats for sure.

Mintreal is in win now mode. They can't afford to give up a main peice for a draft pick who won't contribute for a few years.  I don't think they have a great enough prospect worth The 4th alone. Unless they can do this years 1st plus next years +++

I think it's time I seperate myself from all the prospects.  I don't want to be too attached to a prospect we may not get.

I believe jb will make the right call.

We as a community should probably do this too so we don't have another Nylander Ehlers situation like in 2014 where pPl questioned Jake and the pick.

Let's just wait and see what happens and be happy with what we get.  I know the ehlers and Nylander stuff was a small percentage of you but still.

Let's avoid that.  I wouldn't be surprised by a trade down based on what jb said about players being avaliable he didn't even think would be available.

See what shakes

I believe the 4th pick would contribute as soon as next year, if not definitely the year after. They are a tier lower than the big 3 in the draft but thats not to say they cant be serviceable as early as next year. We know as a fact that PLD and MT are physically mature enough to step into the NHL, if anything its most likely learning the defensive game at a pro level. But saying they wont contribute for a few more years is a little hyperbolic.

Montreal loves the idea of having a french canadian potential superstar on their team. If they feel PLD comparisons to Jamie Benn potential are true I see them giving up a lot to get this kid on their team.

Whether it's PLD or MT at five, there are the Habs and Yotes who might pay A LOT to trade with us. :towel:

I'm not too sure how true the Coyotes rumours are to MT. I would say Arizona's top 10 prospects are 9 forwards and a goalie. Arizona needs a dman more than another forward and they should be in a spot to get the first pick at one.

If it worked out this ^ way, we could consider trading MT to the desert for Sergachev ++.

MT is from there.

Montreal seems relentless in getting the french canadian and they might give up more than they should for picks 3,4 or 5 to get him. Just means Vancouver walks away with MT or on a very slim chance Pulj. What are the chances Montreal gets 3 picks Dubois and Edmonton being turned off with Pulj's knee surgery and feeling like MT's grit fits Edmonton and compliments McDavid better. I'd say very slim chance of this happening but it could.

I know he's from there but it just doesn't make sense to pay premium in losing more value overall to select a player in a position they don't really need.

Why?  He's one of the two players at the top of this draft from there.  This is more than a hockey decision; this is a marketing decision.  Plus, he's a very good player, no?

$&!#ty way of managing a hockey team then.  If he was Peter Dundass from Coquitlam BC does it mean they don't go for him?  Good teams have no Bias.

If Dubois becomes a Jamie Benn type player why in the hell would anyone trade that pick?

It's a subjective opinion. Montreal may feel he has that ceiling while Vancouver thinks his ceiling is a 3C. Impossible to say who's right at this point.  I'm thinking more and more Vancouver keeps the pick though.

at the end of the day we are going to keep that pick, unless its a pick that knocks our socks off, ( Domi + 7th for 5th)

or a Noah Juulsen + Nicker Sherbak + 9th pick for the 5th pick.    Vancouver Canucks are not going to take a bunch of second round picks just to move down 5 spots.

other then that, as GM JB said.... Tkachuk and Dubois are "excellent foundational players"  or "top line players)

You want? their going to pay the price, (Montreal)
