And with this supposed fall of Chychrun (pff) he may fall to 5/6. :D With luck maybe we get him.

I'd be alright with that but I don't look forward to all the negativity when he 'only' turns out to be as good as an Edler or Phaneuf and not the next Chris Pronger or Duncan Keith.

Hey, this is Vancouver if he doesn't win a norris by 20 he's be a bust and we should have drafted (insert name).  People on this site were calling hedman a bust after a slow first couple of years.  No matter who we pick their will always be those haters that think they know better.

the team is starting to play with some confidence, i think the pick will be more in the 10-15 range

decent. i get the feeling that this upcoming road trip may define the season.

Canucks are just a game above .500. Pretty sure Edmonton is going to get another top 5 pick (boy, do they suck). If we go sub.500 on this upcoming road trip, Benning might be tempted to sell some of our veterans for picks. I think some of the other teams are going to be securing their playoff positions, and I'm not convinced that our team has enough to keep pace.

A top 3 pick is unlikely, considering we've got Sutter and Sbisa coming back. Ah well.

It's not so bad really.  the guys that follow those top 6 or 7 guys are solid prospects in their own right.  i tend to agree with benning that the team will get a good player in the 1st round regardless of where they end up picking.

Anyone else worried that benning might just opt to hold on to guys we should be trading come the deadline based on the last 7-8 games?

Based on the organizations moves and Linden's comments both last summer and last night? Not remotely concerned.

Management knows where they are as an organization.

My only concern is that Hamhuis isn't healthy enough to garner/warrant a decent return and may be kept due to a lack of perceived (or otherwise) value.

I'm not worried that we won't get a good player. I'm a little concerned that we don't have top high end elite talent in the pipeline at all. Horvat is going to be good. So will McCann, and even Virtanen. But I'm not sure if those guys will ever achieve 90 point plus seasons.

Which comments were they made by Linden?

I don't know if the team is going to be sellers or not come the trade deadline....

It's kind of a 50/50 chance at this moment. They're not that far behind, but they're not much ahead either.

(Paraphrasing) They want to stay competitive but also realize were the organization is and will not mortgage the future to do so. They realize they need to either re-sign or get return on/value for players on expiring deals.

He stated that last night in the intermission as well as last summer when asked about pending UFA's Hamhuis/Vrbata.

While guys like that are nice. You don't need them to win a cup. You can also pick up one or two via UFA if need be.

Hah. I agree. Maybe the fan in me wants those high end talents on this franchise. Last player like that I can recall was Bure. Sedins are franchise players, don't get me wrong.

I know that there are more ways than one to build a team. But man, wouldn't it be nice to have someone like Laine, Puljujarvi, or even Matthews on this squad ^_^

Does that mean Vrbata & Hammer's on the trade block?

We know what they've done with Higgins.

He didn't come right out and say it but if you read between the lines...

Hammer's a bit of a question mark unfortunately due to his injury. His NTC could also prove to be a hindrance if he wants it to be. Vrbata's less so, one, because it's limited and two, because I doubt he feels as attached to staying here.

Guys.

Chychrun will be an 'okay' defenseman.

I'd rather go for someone like Juolevi or Fabbro. Even still, there's no telling if any first-round defenseman will be elite.

Also, out of the two finns, I like Laine. Not that I would be disappointed with Jesse, but Laine fits JB's style of play more.

how are you so sure that Chychrun will be just an ok dman?

I like Laine and Juolevi a lot too. I have a feeling they will be gone when we pick. I like Mike Mcleod. He could be elite and he could be available when we pick. If we could get Jake Bean as well then I would be one happy camper. These two players would fit nicely with the team JB is building.

prefer Laine. I wonder what it would take for us to nab him after he's been selected and before we select.
