Calgary was down 4 - 0 to Ottawa with almost 7 minutes gone in the 3rd period.

The Flames came back to tie the game, they lost in the SO, but were able to gain an important road point.

They finished their longest road trip of the year with a 4 - 2 -1 record.

Calgary has been unbelievable this year. They have won 1/3 of the games they were trailing in after 2 periods. By comparison, we have won less than 10% of them.

And 4 goals in under 14 minutes? That's crazy!

If penguins win is San Jose done?

Still too early to call a team done. There is over 30 points still available to the Sharks, all it takes is a cold streak by the Canucks, Kings or Flames and they're right back in it.

Unless you're Edmonton, they've been done for years.

If SJ loses and we win, we pretty much put them away from catching us. We'll be up by 8 points, 4 ROWs, and have a game in hand. It would take a significant losing streak on our end for them to get even close.

But if Calgary and LA slow down, the Sharks could still pass them and get in. Doubt it though.

Even if that happens, I think San Jose has enough talent to crawl back into the race. I think they and LA bump out 2 Canadian teams. Just hoping we aren't one of them.

Nah, I don't see it.

In the past, SJ could hit you with waves of talented scorers. Last season they had a 41 goal scorer, a 33 goal scorer, and two more guys with over 20. This year Pavelski is still on pace for about 40, but there's only one other guy who is on pace for over 20.

And then defensively they are struggling too. Niemi actually has the exact same save percentage as he had last year, but his GAA has gone from 2.39 (also his career average) to 2.62.

The team is a mess right now. The GM made a ton of poor moves and non-moves, IMO. Maybe his hands were tied with Marleau and Thornton, but that doesn't excuse how he butchered their defense. Letting Boyle go and then trading away Demers really hampered their ability to drive offense from the D. And it seems like they underrated the defensive skills of Brad Stuart as well. But rather than using foresight and addressing the D, Wilson was busy signing John Scott and Mike Brown.

The Sharks are certainly trending in the wrong direction, and might see some big moves in the summer if they do miss. But even a slumping Sharks team can still be dangerous. They still have a lot of games vs east teams, which could get them right back in it.

They're last game of the reg season is vs the kings. Could be a very interesting game if it comes down to winner moves on, loser is out.

Nazem Kadri will be a healthy scratch tonight for sleeping through a team meeting and being 20 minutes late for practice. Interim coach Peter Horachek referenced Kadri's "past" as something he brought up with the 24-year-old but didn't elaborate.

Didn't Dallas Eakins help with Kadri's maturity during the AHL? Perhaps Eakins can be the next Leafs head coach :bigblush:

Evgeny Romasko became the first Russian-born referee to work an ‪‎NHL‬ game last night when the Edmonton ‪‎Oilers‬ played the Detroit ‪‎Red Wings‬ . Born in Tver, Russia, about 100 miles northeast of Moscow, Romasko worked 295 regular-season and 15 playoff games in the ‪‎KHL‬ and 32 games in the American Hockey League.

Winnipeg just came back from a 4-1 deficit against the Blues. Wheeler tied it with about 5 minutes left, but Pavelec let in a shot from just outside the blueline that he didn't even react to.

Didn't even see it. Goal happened with 1:03 left and the Blues went on to win. Stafford also hit a post when the game was tied 4-4 with a ton of net to shoot at. Not good for my city.

:sadno:
