2inthecup
Currently the oldest head coach in the NHL is Bruce Boudreau at 60 and who knows how long he can go..could be 2 years on 10 years. When i look at our rookie coach at 58 i wonder how long he is going to be in the league. I have been a fan of his so far this year, not everything has made sense but he has gotten a stale product from last year and made it entertaining again. Players seem to like him and play hard. I personally see him here for the next 4 seasons until his contract is up and then we promote Green (obviously if he is still in the organization). Green seems to be a good hockey mind, did a great job as interim head coach in Portland and is doing a amazing job in Utica this year. He will no doubt get a job as an NHL head coach and probably will have offers sooner than later. He's a BC guy and played for Medicine Hat By the end of Willies Current contract he will be 63, he will probably have some good years left but who knows as it is a hard and stressful profession and everyone takes it differently. My question is if Green is being talked to by management at all about a future in the organization or if that would even come up this early. hatedkid666
Green will get another job before we fire willie. Both are great coaches
Derp...
I hope we can get Green to stay in the Organization. If we can keep him as head coach in the AHL for another 2 seasons then move him up to assistant, then have him replace Willie either the following year, or the year after (year 5) that would be ideal
HerrDrFunk
Barring a massive collapse one season, I see Willie being here for at least 4 or 5 years. With that kind of timeline, I don't think it's possible for us to hold onto Green. I'm sure some NHL team will offer him a job before then. Amish Rake Fighter
Green will get another job before we fire willie. Both are great coaches Green's got half a season as a head coach in junior and a season and a half in the AHL. Not a chance any team offers him an NHL head coaching job any time soon. Maniwaki Canuck
It does look like Willie is going to ride this organization's upswing as our promising picks phase into the lineup over the next couple of years. So Green could well get another job in the mean time. No matter what happens, though, it's good to have someone like him in the organization, available to move up if the need is there. We haven't had anyone this good running the farm since Vignault in Winnipeg.

elvis15
I'll answer your question with your own post: ...could be 2 years on 10 years. ... Then again, considering the typo maybe I shouldn't have...
Amish Rake Fighter
really i think your mistaken he will be a head coach sooner than later he isnt dallas dumbass eakins Eakins had a lot more head coaching experience than Green has now, not to mention NHL experience as an assistant. Plus he was practically a player/coach when he was in the minors. He was Bieksa's first D partner/mentor as a pro. He was also viewed as a risky bet because of his lack of experience. alfstonker
Two things may dictate how long Willie is here. Firstly if as most of us suspect Vancouver is about to enter a golden spell for rookies and future draft picks all down to JB then who knows how long Willie, who is obviously one of the best at nurturing young players, will have success here for. I voted 5+ years and given that we could have the likes of Bo, Kenins, Hutton, Pedan, Shink, Virtanen, Tryamkin, Suban, Jensen, Kass, Vey, Tanev, Eddy, Clendening, McCann, Cassels, Baertschi, Cederholm, Gaunce Jensen, Demko, and Conacher he could end up with a very effective team. And who knows who JB will pick up in the next two drafts. Secondly, will the Canucks give Green a position as assistant coach? If they do and Willie is asked to take him under his wing then Willie, IF HE GETS A CUP may well decide to step aside after 5 years.
apollo
5 cups then retire This. Rename gm place to Willie D Center I'm calling it gm place to rebel against rogers for sticking it to me on every damn phone bill and for ruining hockey night in Canada and general canucks broadcasts. ShakyWalton
This team does not want to fire another coach for awhile..so I think WD will get a longer leash than most whether he deserves it or not..I can see him here for the length of his contract.. PistolPete13
I like Willie and I think that he will be around for most, if not all of his contract. He has his share of detractors on this website and in the media, but I am sure that he is in constant communication with JB and Trevor, and they offer their constructive criticisms. Willie has been very loath to use his timeouts early in games - and this is the cause of much angst on these boards. Player deployment is another. It will be interesting to see how Willie's style evolves, or if he continues on his present course. Meanwhile, it's great that he has integrated some many rookies into the current lineup and that the team is performing above expectations under his direction. Travis Green is doing a wonderful job in Utica and it would be nice to keep in in the organization. Like Scott Arniel, he probably will be snapped up by another organization. But success in the AHL doesn't always translate to success at the NHL level. Here's hoping that Travis can be promoted to serve as an assistant with the Canucks and maybe transition to the head coaching job one day.
