Brick Tamland
I don't watch a lot of Dallas games (I can't stand Benn or Seguin) but looking around the NHL, this guy is ahead of Ekblad. I know Hoffman and Forsberg are ahead in points, but not by much and he has played 12 less games than everyone else. Could he sneak in and win the award? Master Mind
I think Forsberg pretty much has it in the bag already, but he should definitely get some attention. It's hard to put him ahead of Ekblad and Gaudreau too, but anyone could easily make an argument for Klingberg to get at least a nomination. hatedkid666
Ekblad does a lot more for the panthers. Klingberg is just an offensive dman. Ekblad logs huge minutes and PK time

As much as points dominate most categories (Norris anyone?) Ekblad should be a favourite this year for the amount of points he's put up while also being a significant contributor in all areas of the game. Considering he was just drafted that makes it even more impressive. Klingberg was drafted in 2010.
Nurf Herder
Ekblad or Forsberg, but I guess it could happen! If he catches or passes them both. The surpeise Calder nominee this year has to be Gaudreau... Also stings a bit. Flames land a gem at what, 101st overall? I've been waiting years for another canucks rookie to light it up like he has. Rey
You have to remember Ekblad is 19 and Klingberg is 22.
Canuck Surfer
I'd ask more questions about Hoffman being included in the conversation? Ekblad for me, Forsberg then Johnny Hockey!

Everyone knew he was coming, after dominated college. He had the name Johnny Hockey already before the season started. The only thing people were worried about was his size, but he compliments the flames perfectly.

Forsberg and ekblad are ahead of the pack due to their responsibilities that they take on. Klingberg is just an offensive dman, a damn good one but ekblad just does so much more for his team. Coconuts
It's Forsberg/Ekblad with Gaudreau being third I'd say. Klingberg has definitely been impressive and could be nominated but he wouldn't win.
JeremyCuddles
Ekblad does everything, while putting up great numbers, didn't he also just recently turn 19? Guy is a freak of nature. Too bad we couldn't snag him in the draft. In Jake we trust.

NEON.KNEE
Forsberg is old as well....It is a better story for the NHL if their 18year old, 1st overall D-Man gets the Rookie of the year
jdatb
forsberg, ekblad, gaudreau, klings, horvat, kenins Fixed that for you. Klingberg has been fantastic on a terrible Stars defense. I would say he and Ekblad are very very close. Forsberg has cooled off considerably but still is probably the front runner. I would say Gaudreau doesn't have a chance as long as he is behind Forsberg. I might give an outside chance to Lee or Hoffman if they manage to go on a goal scoring outburst
MJDDawg
Ekblad by a country mile. If an 18 year old playing in the hardest position there is for a rookie to start his pro career in doesn't win it, then there is no God.

TOMapleLaughs
Think it's just a matter of Dallas having a team with a lot of scoring forwards, and not a lot of proven defense, so somebody was going to get an opportunity to pile in some points. Enter this kid. Good for him. The NHL, with future expansion and the ongoing need for more skill, is going to require further amplified development of all these kind of players. Guest Dasein
Forsberg wins Ekblad runner-up I would have said Gaudreau as the third finalist, but maybe Klingberg sneaks in there
cyoung
I don't think age should be considered, a rookie is a rookie. With that being said ekblad is still the best considering how he carries Florida's backend.
