I'm not looking at the game right now, but I believe you just move the slider side to side. I'll try and get a screenshot.

edit: Just highlight the player you want to retain salary for and use the right stick to adjust the amount.

Not sure why it's not working on your end. I just tried it here and I have the steps right.

And it works the same way for the players you are offering and the ones you are looking to get back.

Weird, you're using the right joystick right?
