Lancaster
There's almost like a cone of silence with regards to reporting about the problems there. I believe there was one.... or maybe more journalists who made reports about the clean up efforts, exposing the corruption, the abuse from elements of organized crime and stuff..... got "suicided". Nuxfanabroad
Have to go back a couple generations if one is determined to play the blame-game. Good ol' USA (GE) sold them on nuclear energy, back in the '50s & '60s. What a place to build almost 100 nuclear reactors. Then they didn't have the common sense to put the back up diesel generators at high ground?! With the genius IQ's setting up such a system, they couldn't figure that one out? Apparently the back up gens were kept nearby, mostly due to budget. Imagine losing all you have(house, farm, & town/region & all it's memories), to find it might have been averted, had it not been for their cost-saving oversights? Absolute tragedy. & yes, I'd say the media has swept an awful amount of radioactive detritus under the infested tatami.

They had contingencies plans..... it's not like they placed the diesel generators unprotected by the shore. It was designed to handle like almost every possible scenario, save for the most extreme of situations. It just so happened that the absolute worst case scenario occurred, where huge mega-tsunamis hit the area. IIRC, the facility was designed to handle a pretty huge earthquake and a regular tsunami. Instead they had a massive 9.0 earthquake, plus 14-feet tall waves.
Tortorella's Rant
Are they still storing radioactive water in giant silos and letting them accumulate because they don't know what else to do? Vice showed in 2013 where I think they had a couple hundred of these giant towers. Either there must be thousands of them now or they're doing something different? I'm wondering when they'll actually stop pouring contaminated wastewater into the ocean. Now with 100% uranium.
