2011 Canucks vs 2015 Canucks

Sorry i know its random but can you guys check out this video about the Canucks and Bruins?

So since that miracle cup run in 2011... the canucks kept trending nowhere but down. Since everyone keeps reflecting back to that year.. what does this team need to do to get back? I mean physicallity was obviously missing during the stanley cup finals against Boston but the team remained to be the best in the regular season in 2012..

Alain Vigneult, clearly was a key part to that team and the canucks basically has its main core together still...? Why can't they win it all with the talent this team has?

Fighting for a playoff spot never seem so desperate for this team. Its honestly hard to watch sometimes... Flames won today now with 81 points and every one knows kings are going to sneak in again.. Minnesota is going to make it with the streak the team is going at. I feel if the canucks were to make it (if they even do) ... they will be fighting with a team for that final wild card spot.

Playoffs might be a possiblility but there is absolutely no chance this team can win the cup with the players they currently have. That's why in a few years (3-5), makes sense. Currently this team cannot play against the kings, ducks, and even sharks. They're decent but cannot win a playoff series against any of those teams to reach the finals again.

So lets end it.. In about how many years will this team finally win the cup? 3? 6? 9?

The team still play hard for each other and it's a good locker room but the talent isn't there. Our guys have heart, and you can see Desjardins really emphasizing on working hard. I think that's the motto for the team, to work hard but I think our skill is lacking and we still have a couple of holes to fill in our line-up. The holes will take time to fill up because when you make trades you usually open other holes.

Here's a perfect example of why "fans" have no business interfering in NHL business. After the loss in 2011 "fans" were calling for everyone's head (change the GM, change the coach, trade the Sedins etc etc etc). Now in 2015 we have a new President, a new GM, a new coach and this year we have dressed a total of 22 players who were not dressed in the 2011 Finals. So the "fans" got what they asked for (an almost entirely different organization)...and now we're fighting for a playoff spot instead of fighting for the SC...are ya'll happy now? Aren't you glad the organization didn't listen to the "fans" completely and also trade the Sedins? We'd be fighting for McDavid instead of at least a shot at the cup again. There's no satisfying you "fans" now is there?

2 x 41 goal scorers

1 x 50 point dman, another with 33 points in 51 games played

2 x 90+ point forwards

1 x selke winner

Awesome special teams

Best face off team

Other than that were pretty much the same. :)

In all honesty though, I like our current team depth far better, and our 2nd line wingers were alright, but Raymond and Samuelsson didnt have to be anything special.

We're a WAYS off from touching the top end talent that came together for that season. We'll likely never see a team that dominant again.

That's funny that you say all those changes have been made except trading the Sedins. Hmmm..................... interesting.

100 point sedins vs 70 point sedins

special teams was top notch that year. We also had a legit 2nd line. Bunch of other stuff too.

Bolded doesn't say anything. Scoring has becoming increasingly more difficult for every player in the NHL. Not just the Sedins; Ovechkin, Stamkos, Tavares, Crosby have all went from 100 point players to 70-80 today and in comparison, the Sedins are neck and neck with them. They are doing incredible actually if you think about it.

The league was different back then. It was between the call all the interference and hooking and the big bad beat down stuff. We found out the hard way in the finals which way things were heading and were unable to switch styles very well. Also wouldn't hurt to have a pp type dman.... aka Reinhardt, Salo, Erhoff etc .

Ehrhoff - despite all the unnecessary hate for him after he left - was a critical perfect fit with the Sedins on the PP and 5 on 5 because he could skate and pass the puck to start the transition quickly from our own zone. He could also not only hit the net but score with wrist shots and draw defenders to set up Edler for his one timer with a chance to actually get it through to the net.

Our puck possession system was also far more effective with centers who could actually win faceoffs. Without that component we spend to much time and energy trying to get the puck back then back up the ice. See point one about our effectiveness at moving the puck up ice for yet another reason the team is so inconsistent.

The 2011 team had Sami Salo and Christian Ehrhoff

yes. I forgot to mention that. Since trading these 2.. it has realy affected the team, alex edler, and the obviously the power play. Why not resign them? Erhoff was available this season but he chose to go to pittsburgh instead??

With Christian Ehrhoff on the team, our play was deadly, and overall our offence was deadly. The Sedins fed off of him, and it resulted in back to back art ross trophies because of an pure offensive dman in Christian Ehrhoff. We also had a 70 point centerman who scored 40 goals.

it's not even close. and I doubt Jim Benning can ever assemble a team like that ever again.
