RUPERTKBD
Sorry to burst your bubble but not a bloody chance. He has less of a chance than Bo has this year and he has no chance at all. Will he get a vote? Maybe some. I like Kenins and I like Bo but Canucks fans always over value our talent and that is what you have done here It's a bi-polar fanbase. On the one hand, we have people over valuing guys like Kenins, (as you say) thinking they're a bigger deal than they are. However, we also have the other extreme, where people are absolutely convinced that Bieksa, Kassian, Sbisa and even guys like Hamhuis, aren't worth a bag of pucks. TheFastOne21
Well Kenins is at 18 games, max is 25 games to retain eligibility for the Calder. He will also be younger than the maximum allowed age. Not sure if the Swiss league team counts against those totals. It says major professional league, but doesn't list any. If he is eligible, do the Canucks give him that chance and only play him to his 25 games and hope for the best next year? Calder = most points as a rookie Assumption is McJesus/Eichel win that race. Which is why Horvat (this year) and Kenins (whenever) have no shot. Vital to our success but not happening at the NHL award level.

CALGARY!
Sam Bennetts got it locked up already!! But yes, I think he would be eligable, albeit unlikely to win, if this years crop is as talented as advertised, and with a few of the picks from 13/14 coming online next year I cant see him winning it. TheFastOne21
Not necessarily. Forsberg is the front runner this season, but Ekblad and Klingberg both have an excellent chance as well... I didnt mean always but generally. I see how the way i wrote that makes it seem exactly as I didnt mean it...Yes Ekblad and Klingberg have excellent cases. To me Ekblad should win over Forsberg. Ekblad is on a far worse team and has proven that he is not only their top D man but also one of their leaders in only his rookie season. Forsberg is pretty damn great this season though. Carl's Jn
Hasn't scored in 11 games. Safe to say the ride is over. Reminds me of Jensen's brief hot streak late last year. But he does more than just score, and that's why he hasn't been sent down yet. It would be nice if we had more players that both scored and did stuff when they didn't though. maybe not scoring but the hard work and effort is noticeable. he is on a team that doesn't score much anyway... burrows wouldn't score much if he doesn't play with the twins.. It's much more difficult for a defenseman to have a dominant rookie campaign than it is a forward, especially one on a first place team. Actually, I'd probably give Hoffman, Stone and Gaudreau the edge over Forsberg as well, if I was making the pick.

Gaudreau kept up his pace, Forseberg has slowed down, I bet Gaudreau takes the rookie scoring race, but I would give Eckblad the Calder, Dmen usually don't develop into NHL calibre till a little later then forwards, and to be doing what he's doing as an 18/19 year old, and on the team he is on is phenomenal. Duodenum
Don't know why we've got posters claiming the "ride is over" or that he had beginner's luck that has run out. All I see is Horvat, Hansen, and him playing extremely well. Plus he has 7 points in his last 10 games. He makes some really nice passes and has been one of our better offensive players since he was called up. Also has a physical edge to his game. But yea, might as well give McDavid the Calder already, he'll probably put up 70+ points next year barring injury.

I am betting on Ekblad. For a guy to come in and play D the way he has just after being drafted is very unusual and suggests that he is future Norris material. He had some lucky goals early that obviously were not going to continue at that same pace. He is a good passer but I fully expect his point pace to eventually slow even further. He is a bottom 6 guy who needs to keep playing a physical game. Whatever points he gets are a bonus. But anyone who thinks he has even a remote shot at a Calder is seriously overrating him. Unless you think we can trade him straight across for the first overall pick in the draft to get the second place Calder guy.

I don't feel particularly pessimistic overall. but if that is how my posts are going I guess I am just more towards the pessimistic end of the pendulum right now. It is probably that the topics I choose to respond to have me taking the more pessimistic side of the argument.
wallstreetamigo
He has 12 points in 17 games, you don't hav to get goals to get points. The most dangerous thing is expecting that level of offense to be his career standard. More likely he will come back down to earth and that's ok too. As long as he continues to play his role well we are in good shape no matter how many points he does or doesn't get.
