-Vintage Canuck-
European media is reporting that former Devils star Ilya Kovalchuk wants to return to the NHL as soon as possible as his KHL contract (that lost 50% of its value) expires this season. Of course Kovalchuk, who famously retired from the NHL several years ago with a new $77M new contract, would have to go though a process to get back into the league. The earliest return would be 2016 but Kovalchuk would need to sit out from pro hockey for a full year and get approval from every NHL team including the Devils. However after Kovy's 35th birthday, he can return to the NHL in 2018-19 with no rules thanks to the leagues retirement rules changing after players' 35th birthdays.
