Could it take a 100pts to make the playoffs?

If the Canucks play at the pace they have been maintaining all season, they will finish with either 100 or 102 points.

The question is, how many points will LA put up. They are clearly desperate and motivated if they could beat the Rangers, a team which was the hottest in the league till tonight.

We can only hope the Islanders, a team which has been in a slump, can step up and put them down.

I am also hoping the next team up, the Wild, will continue their hot streak and smash down the Queens.

LA schedule is easier than Canucks from what I see:

Thu Mar 26, 2015 Kings at Islanders

Sat Mar 28, 2015 Kings at Wild

Mon Mar 30, 2015 Kings at Blackhawks

April
Thu Apr 2, 2015 Oilers at Kings
Apr 4, 2015 Avalanche at Kings
Mon Apr 6, 2015 Kings at Canucks
Tue Apr 7, 2015 Kings at Oilers
Thu Apr 9, 2015 Kings at Flames
Sat Apr 11, 2015 Sharks at Kings

Kings and Flames would need to go 5-3-1 to end up with 97 and we would need to go 3-6 to not make it.
Jets would need to go 4-3-1 as well.

That is possible, but i seriously doubt all 3 will finish with 97 plus.

If we beat LA and Winnipeg in our games against them that are left we are almost guaranteed to make it.

Kings will probably go 3-1-1 over there next 5

Jets will probably go 2-2-1

We will probably go 3-2 or 2-2-1

I have news. The Canucks are playing to their potential right now for all games. That means nothing but wins in the remaining games. Count on it. I know that sounds silly but that's what the deal in the locker room is right now. The only game they might lose is to the Kings and I doubt they lose that one.

Apollo will likely agree with me. LoL! Time to get excited people. The canucks will be a force going forward. Mark this post.

Seriously. Mark it.

Basically 5 teams in the west fighting for 4 spots. Right now all of them playing pretty well.

However chances are at least one team falls off the pace. Or yeah it could take 100 points.

Lots of parity in the west. The 2 division champs will hardly have gimme first rounds.

I think the most worrying thing about this year is that the leading scorer might not even crack 90 points.

One could also argue that it's a good thing that the Canucks lead the NHL with players having double digit goals. It's been a team effort all year, I'd rather have it that way than 1 guy with a lot of points that could be shut down in the playoffs.

It's kind of an eggs all in one basket kind of thing.

I would much rather have the well rounded scoring that our team currently has. You have one top line, and it's easy for other teams to shut it down, especially when those teams have all-star defense quality (Kings, old-Boston). We have 2-3 lines going on a good night and the goals can come from anywhere. Love it

Considering the final teams (WPG, CGY, LA, VAN, MIN) still have games against the teams they are competing with, it is more likely that a couple teams heat up and start to run away with it while 2 teams struggle and fall off. Game to game momentum is huge at this point and streaks are more likely to happen.

For example, if Flames lose tonight against the Stars. Not only do Stars become 4 points back with another match up against each other. They also then have a ton of pressure on them to get points in there next three, against MIN, then a back to back against NSH and Stars once again. A win against the Stars tonight relieves some that pressure, and allows the players to play looser in the next three. A win tonight Flames play over .500 in this current 4 games stretch. A loss tonight and they likely play under .500.

I say 95 points is still what it takes, and it’s likely Calgary and Winnipeg competing for that final spot. It may come down right to that final game against each other.

I think you were referring to the NHL's top scorer, right?

It is a little crazy to see the league's top scorer getting one ppg. How the league has changed by letting teams clutch and grab their way to victory.

Still, it makes the Sedins look pretty damn good with their production this year though. Not much of a sign that they're tailing off.
