Drive from Europe to US?

Why bother with that expensive plan. The North American Continental Plate is crashing into Russia and Asia at a rate of a few centimeters per year. In 50 million years we'll all be one big supercontinent anyways and will be able to cross into Russia & Asia all along North America's Western border. Then again, by that time, we'll all be able to beam ourselves across time, space and dimension.

Thing is, where or who is Russia going to get trillions of dollars from?

They spent 52 billion on the Olympics which was an Olympic record. Don't kid yourselfs these guys are corrupt and rich AF.

Trillion dollars though might be too much. They might need support from the U.S but lol if it comes to that.

By then we would have destroyed our planet enough to kill ourselves off.

I agree, a bullet train like Maglev that could reach speeds of 500 kph. It would cover 10,000 km in 20 hours but the cost of building it would be in trillions or probably even more.

did you know we have the technology to make maglev trains that can reach speeds of over 5k+?

I was thinking the same, it's even worse with the collapse of the Ruble. Plus, no one on the planet is going to give Russia of all nations much of anything, much less than trillions of dollars.

There are sooo many issues with this plan.

From money to permafrost and engineering issues and more.

but don't kid yourselves.

This crossing is going to be built or at least started in our life time.

A route that includes rail, infrastructure such as electrical oil and gas and a road.

We already have tunnels spanning tens of kilometers, we even have routes that jump from tunnel to bridge and back multiple times.

The cost amount of this is going to be large. There is no question. It is half the excuse they don't build high speed rail in canada is the size.

but think of this.

China, as per the story just finished a massive and still ongoing high speed rail network that includes both freight and passenger traffic. It is capable of 400 km speeds on average and cost around $144 BILLION. But...it has already saved China tens of billions in transportation costs and is cited as one of if not THE main reasons China's GDP and exports grew at a record setting pace.

Do not kid yourselves. Humans are obstinate. Someone said it cannot be done. Pfft, not only will it be done, but it will also do exactly what has been envisioned.

The ONLY reason it won't get built is MAD conflict between the US China and Russia. That's it

Just imagine. Putin opening his hands asking for money and Obama looking the opposite direction trying to ignore him. Then Putin starts crying at Obamas feet.

Can you honestly envision any country rich enough with the exception of nato and its allies that would allow this to happen?

Russia needs to improve its relationship with the U.S before any of this happens. And with whats going on in Ukraine it seems like it will never happen.

See that's the problem,

Everyone views this as a single country doing it.

Wrong.

You have 11 or mroe European countries and THEN Russia that would share the cost, then as well the US and Canada as well.

This would be a truly global event.

Added China with its trillions in cold cash and gold reserves wants this done as well as it could simply drive a road north adn assist in the manpower issues through Russia

And poof.

This thing gets started in our lifetime.

Economically it makes too much sense not to do it. high speed rail AND a road basically gives Europe China and North America unfettered control over global trade.

China will be funding Russia's infrastructure expansion via their mega oil/gas deals.

I think all 3 countries would contribute in building the road structure. US could cover the road costs from Fairbanks to Nome, Russia could contribute paying for the cost of building the road from Moscow and China could also chip in for building the bridge. The cost can easily be covered when the 3 richest countries on the planet are involved in this project. The question is if they can cooperate with each other in building it, otherwise this is not impossible to build especially if cheap Chinese labour is involved.

I would say it could be part of the 7th wonder of the world like the wall of China. Imagine taking a drive from Vancouver to Iran lol

I've heard of a similar concept to this, except it involves a trans-Atlantic subway system, and supposedly would make it possible to travel from New York to London in 30 minutes.

Considering it takes a few hours to go from NYC to London by even with the Concorde.... and that's super fast as well, I doubt a subway system can go faster than that.
